What's the deal?

A great chat forum spot, Nice PC are offering a Fujitsu-Siemens 42" Plasma TV for a bargainous £872.97 (including £51.05 for delivery). It's a great deal as the same model is being sold elsewhere for £1300.

Obviously this is a massive expenditure though and only for those who ask the questions "will I use it and is it worth it?". Make sure its exactly what you need before you buy.

For those that use cashback sites

If you're a hardcore internet shopper and use cashback sites, the same model TV is available from Savastore for slightly more but cashback from Quidco makes it slightly cheaper. It's only worth doing it with via this method if you built up your cashback stash. For more info on Internet Cashback sites read Internet Shopping: Cutting Edge Time & MoneySaving Techniques.

Slash the price further

To maximise your savings use a cashnack card such as Amex Platinum which offers 3% cashback in the first 3 months. This offers protection under Section 75, so if anything else goes pear shaped the credit card company are equally liable as the retailer.

Terms and Conditions

Under the Distant Selling Regulations you are entitled to a full refund up to 7 days after the TV has been delivered. For full terms and conditions click here.

The screen is a Fujitsu-Siemens PQ42-1 42" Plasma TV.
Fujitsu-Siemens online shop price is £1361...

Yet here, Nice PC (who are the retailer) have a "general public" URL & are doing it for £949.99...

http://www.nice-pc.co.uk/myrica_42_plasma_tv.html

BUT WAIT!

The sneaky blighters have special hidden URL for the very same Plasma (that anyone can use if they know about it!) for just £813 inc VAT...

http://www.nice-pc.co.uk/42_myrica_p42_plasma.html

Delivery is chunky at £59.99, but the total delivered price is £872.99 is still *very* cheap for a really top specification Plasma (HDM & DVI both with HDCP, Component, 2 Scarts, 10,000:1 contrast ratio).

I bought one...it looks fantastic (physical appearance & picture quality).

i challenge anyone to find a better deal (ie similar specification for less)

PS Forgot to mention....a 2 year warranty - if it breaks, Fujitsu-Siemens will come & get it, fix/replace it & then deliver it back at their cost.

EDIT: 21 July 2006 - ALL SOLD OUT at Nice-PC *however* this TV is still available at Savastore...

I think you are getting muddled up with LCD screen resolutions (this is a Plasma).

Most 42" plasmas (including the 'just released' models from Panasonic such as the TH-42PX600 http://www.digico.co.uk/default.asp?Detail=Yes&ModelID=1172 ) have the same resolution as this Fujitsu-Siemens. It's only when you get up to 50" plasmas - & pay mega mega bucks (ie £3k+) - do you get slightly more resolution.

Be careful with plasmas when using channels which have a permanent logo, ie Sky One etc, or indeed a red button logo. TV doesn't look so good with said logo permanently burned into the screen!

    No such problem with LCD...

You can watch the vs argument unfold at https://www.avforums.com !
    Waddle you do eh?

this offer has been posted before, I think on here but it maybe on rpoints, cant remember. Anyway i was going to buy one but it got a bad right up as its not a Fujitsu panel which are very good but a generic TV which Fujitsu-Siemens have put there badge on. Saying that the actual panel is a samsung.

Fujitsu and Fujitsu-Siemans are not the same.

I've had a 42" plasma for getting on 3 years now. I have no screen burn at all from watching TV channels with idents in the top corner, and it tends to be on for 5-10 hours a day.

Man there's some crappy info being handed out on this board

Plasma screen burn was a legacy of earlier generation screens.

Sure if you're going to leave a static picture on it day in day out (ie an airport arrivals board etc), then you're going to have a problem....but I'd imagine that not too many on here have a runway in their garden?

Re Fujitsu Siemens (check the spelling) being 'crappy'....horlicks!! I have it front of me right now & the picture is perfect. If you'd researched this a little more than just spouting off, you'd have found out that there are ZERO write ups (check the spelling) for the model I'm posting about - because it's only just been released. It's the latest generation. It might use a Samsung panel, but so what? Plenty of happy Samsung owners on the AV forums.

    So let's summarise...

    Resolution is not crap.

Screen burn is not an issue.

There are no reviews so it hasn't had a bad 'right up' :D

Fujitsu-Siemens are a premium brand (ie miles away from the likes of Tevion, Orion blah blah)

    Don't know why I bother.

PS: Unless you want to use your TV with a PC/Xbox....for general TV viewing a Plasma picture will mop the floor vs LCD (it's all to do with the blacks)

That is a great buy, I've just given the link to a friend who was looking for a plasma, and he's ordered, so thanks!

The 2 yr at home warranty is the winner. If a plasma goes wrong, the last think you want to do is load it in the car and haul it off to a a shop or a service centre somewhere, only to have to collect it again who knows how long later.

I'm pleased that you bother - don't stop!

By the way, I note on the website for the tv it states courier collect and return but you mention at home warranty - I'm confused?

Bu**er - just spent all my money on cheap air fares to New York!! This looks like a cracking deal, just the thing to replace my aging 32" CRT rubbish from Philips. Looks like I'll have to wait until bonus time now :(
