You're completely right - it is courier collect and return...but even so, it'll still save a lot of hassle/expense. I'll edit my initial post to reflect that.

To the poster who gave his friend the link...if this is a big issue, than Nice PC will let you cancel (I cancelled a previous model I'd ordered with them without issue)

It means that they'll come and collect your screen and return it to you when fixed, most warrantys I've seen for plasmans are RTB (return to base) i.e. you have to transport it (tricky with plasmas as they have to be kept upright) back to retailer for repair.

    Some other comments:

    - LOADS of other premium manufs use Samsung panels, they're one of the largest producers

    - Screenburn. Never had an issue with this on my Panny TH42PV500 but it is important to 'run in' new plasma panels. For example Panasonic recommend 100 hours running the screen at 30% contrast to minimise risk of screenburn.

..personally I'm prepared to risk a tiny chance of such an issue rather than have to suffer grey blacks from an LCD ;)

    Hi HankmcSpank,

    Thanks for the link,

Just out of interest how do you find the hidden URL? I took your one and edited it for the 50 inch version and managed to save another £125??

    Cheers

The crucial thing with these displays is the signal processing. They can suffer from too few bits, in which case you get pasty skin tones, or their motion compensation can be poor, resulting in lots of funny things happening on moving images. Experience suggests that, so far, Sony LCDs and Panasonic plasmas look the best. I don't know about this set. Until the electronics are sorted out there's life in the old CRT, and you may be disappointed if you supposedly go better for a thin screen. Ever wondered why they're not displayed along side CRT televisions in show rooms? :D

Poor resolution = not High Definition. Even though it may have HDMI connectors etc it still needs to cut bits of the picture off or down scale which will make your high definition picture look like crap. I would go for at least the lowest HD standard resolution. Resolution resolution...

Plasmas do indeed seem to be mainly 1024x768 which is XGA resolution whereas HD signals are broadcast in either 720p (1280 x 720) or 1080i (1920 x1080) so you're not going to get full hi-def on this tv. It isn't worth buying a 1080 tv as there are so few and they are expensive but i wouldn't buy one that isn't proper 720p resolution if you're planning on watching HD signals as it just won't be as good.

Re Fujitsu Siemens (check the spelling) being 'crappy'....horlicks!! I have it front of me right now & the picture is perfect. If you'd researched this a little more than just spouting off, you'd have found out that there are ZERO write ups (check the spelling) for the model I'm posting about - because it's only just been released. It's the latest generation. It might use a Samsung panel, but so what? Plenty of happy Samsung owners on the AV forums.

Fujitsu-Siemens are a premium brand (ie miles away from the likes of Tevion, Orion blah blah)

Fujitsu-siemens are far from being a premium brand. They are nothing to do with fujitsu (who are a premium brand) and haven't yet deserved the right to be classed as a premium brand such as pioneer, panasonic and hitachi. I wouldn't expect this set to be a patch on the current plasmas from those companys. Theres no evidence yet to suggest they are any better than the supermarket plasmas either, except from current owners who rarley slag off there own sets.

As long as you dont think your getting a premium plasma for this kind of money theres not a problem, but just dont expect a pioneer/panasonic quality plasma for this money.

And the plasma/LCD is more to do with lighting conditions in your room than black levels as such.

All these sets overscan, don't they (the technical term for "cut bits of the picture off" in the vertical dimension)?

Note also that the Fujitsu Siemens 50" Myrica P50-2 Plasma Television (HD Ready) can be found at another hidden URL for £1475 instead of the normal £1599.99
