No longer on my shopping list?
Sugar- in any form besides that which is naurally found in the fruit I buy.
Sugar makes me hungry 10 mins after eating it and I end up wanting more. This makes me fat and wastes money! I now have an apple if I want something sweet although I want to cut out sweeteners too- I drink diet fizzy drinks and think sweetners have the same effect as sugar does, but cutting out sweeteners is so hard!
I no longer buy shower gel, I have had enough freebies or Lush bags of soap shower gel or shampoo (works as shower gel) to last me many years!
Ibuprofen. Taken so much in the past it no longer seems to have any effect.0 -
Tinned beans - my fridge has a forest of jars (from roll mops, jam or pickles) full of dried pulses which is MUCH more economic and taste better... and take up a lot LOT less space.
Also recently discovered a healthIER snack - which is slowly roasted sweetcorn/pulses (chickpeas) with a tiny amount of salt and Cayenne pepper. This is a cheap alternative to peanuts and/or crips and much healthier. Warning, they are crunchy so maybe not for those with expensive bridge work.
Pasta sauces - why bother when an onion and a bottle of passata, and seasoning, does the job better.
Can't say I use air freshener as I am asthmatic and aerosols make me couch. Instead I use an oil burner and if your sources the oils, you should get it for 2 or 3 pounds which is economic.
Sauces (HP/Ketchup) When I am in a hotel/restaurant with free sachets I grab a few extra. Otherwise I can live without and its much healthier
Bread (Except 5p bread from Asda, sunday 3.30pm). If i want fresh bread I will burn it in attempting my own! :-s
Soup - the magic of a slow cooker means I buy half the soup I used to. Instead I chop up, leave it to simmer in the day, and then blend it together. Nothing like fresh seasonal veggies.
Sandwich bags - I use tupperware style boxes or reused margerine tubs. Also use Margarine tubs to organise my fridge.
Pickled Onions - started pickling my own. looking forward to when you can get the onions again.
Expensive flavoured alcohol - instead made sloe Gin and Rhubarb Rum using supermarket basics Gin/Rum and homemade flavourings/syrups.
Instant drink - fill jars with dried milk, mixed spice and a little unrefined sugar. - instant milk drink for night times.
Shower gel - reduced it by showering at the gym as often as possible.
Cereals - now stick with porridge/oats
Cold/flu drinks - stick with soluble aspirin, sugar, lemon and hot water
With the freebies I get, and things massively reduce buy in bulk when possible, massively reduces costs............... Have you ever wondered what

I don't buy
pledge or any spray polish, I use a little bit of beeswax & plenty of elbow grease
air freshner, I hate the "chemical" smell
fabric softner, as above
lots of different cleaning products, I find star drops, bleach, hot soapy water & vinegar do the trick
any toiletries I don't actually NEED, (as opposed to want!!) see sig:)

I thought I was the only one who had given up using fabric conditioner - and now I know I am not alone.
I have also given up:
Polish
J cloths
Shop bought bread
Newspapers
Magazines
Ready Made Trifle (unless its reduced)
Cheap Chicken (Buy local free range happy life chicken)
Sprays
Highly developed/ oversold wash tabs/liquids (use ecoballs about half the time)
Biscuits
+ I always buy a 25 kg sack of spuds and share them with a friend
Branded cereal - i think cornflakes are all made in the same cornflake factory.
cheap pasta - quality pasta is still good value.Still virtually alcohol free since 4/1/15. (10 Xmas/ New Year/Birthday drinks)
It takes 3500 calories to lose a pound in weight. Target 13 lbs weight loss. 18.5lbs lost 2nd May - 28 September.0 -

Well I do, I can't make mash to save my life either too lumpy or ends up like wallpaper paste. At £1 for 2 Morrisons own brand and getting at least 8 meals from those makes it a lot cheaper than buying and wasting spuds, milk and butter.
buy a potato ricer, you will never have lumpy tats again and will save a fortune in long run x:xmastree::xmassign::rudolf::xmastree:0 -

I think it depends on which cereal and which supermarket.
I don't buy cereal anymore as I just never eat it, and all the ones I do like are all full of sugar - no good when you are diabetic (I miss coco pops and cheerios)!
:o:o
The only cereals I have left in the house are porridge oats, shredded wheat (they were a quid for the box and I wanted to see what they tasted like - not bad at all) and bran flakes (and all 3 are nice with sweetener or sultanas).
Bought cereal for OH but he never ate it and anything that hadn't gone stale got given to my mum so it was a bit pointless!
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Bread as I now make my own.
Biscuits as I now make those Hobnob thingies which are damn nice (recipe on here somewhere).
Frozen ready meals....yuk.
Very few tinned foods, make my own meals and freeze.
Well, it's a start

The great bane is tomatoes - Most my sauces use a tomato base and unless you can get a big stack of over ripe ones - you are stuffed with tins (although all recycled).
The only alternative is getting large jars of pasatta but is one large glass jar better than 2 or 3 steel tins when both are recycled???............... Have you ever wondered what

passata also comes in tetra paks which would stack in the cupboard. Sometimes the ones with flavouring - eg garlic or herbs - cost less than the plain ones. About 45p I think.0
