Most Montagne Jeunesse masques and tonics etc retail at 99p, though if you have a hunt around you can usually find them on offer or a little cheaper.

I swear by the orange face tonic. Perfect before a night out - it really makes your skin glow. :D It tightens pores and refreshes, and goes on feeling a bit tingly but it's sooooo relaxing!!!

I've yet to try their cellulite masque, but have ordered one - free delivery over £7 on their website, which isn't difficult if you're planning ahead. Their hair masques are amazing too - I tried one after living in Spain and having bleached the red (previous dye) out of my hair it was pretty frazzled, and it completely changed the look to healthy and not at all straw-like.

My other steal is Johnsons 24 facial moisturiser. At about 4 quid it's a bargain and lasts ages. I suffer from really dry skin on my face, and they make a nice one that's non greasy but deeply moisturising.

What else....(just raiding my dressing table lol ;))

Oooh, for anyone a bit spotty Boots 17 skin perfecting foundation is a steal at £5.49...a bit over 5 but well worth it. And it has an SPF so great for hols (can't actually use mine atm as is too dark :p)

Ooooh! Also those Collection 2000 mini nail-polishes. Great for fashion colours, and I think about £2 a pop. Hotlooks, that's the one! Oooh just had a look on boots.com and they're 2 for £3 at the moment.

    Enjoy girlies!
I agree with all of the above, except for foundation, which I dont use. You can get Johnsons 24 hr from most poundlands - for yes, thats right a QUID! :)

I agree they are great. In my local Home Bargains I got a pack of Montagne Jeunesse treatments - two face masques, two hair masques and two leg treatments all for 49p! Bargain!

I have fine & greasy hair and always used Elnett Hair Spray; however someone on another forum here recommended Bristows Hair Spray.
It is much better than Elnett (for my hair) and only cost 90p from Wilkinsons! I can't believe all the money i have spent on Elnett over the years.
I also use Vaseline Intensive Care Body Lotion. It varies from £3.50 - £4.95 for a 500ml plastic bottle (depending if it is on offer). I have tried just about all the others mentioned, but as I have got older I need a more intensive type lotion, but did use Aquious cream for many years. Vaseline petroleum jelly doesn't suite my skin and I only use it as a barrier cream when colouring my hair. I am going to look for that Poly Colour and see if they have it in my colour, at the moment I use Clairol Loving Care which suited me and is still under £5.
I use Boots Awakening Eye Gel which is £8+, but only buy it when I have a £5 coupon; and get my 10% over 60's discount, so that brings it down to £2.80.

Oooh I'll remember that. I bought mine full price but it has literally lasted about 4 months and still has 2/3 left! Might pop into poundland when the student loan goes in :)
  • I use alot of the products mentioned here, plus a few branded favourites. Mum, myself and a few friends all exchanged lists of our top favourite toiletries, since we're all working mums too what we do is if we happen to spot that item on sale, BOGOF, in a euroshop etc. - we buy it for them and pass it on - that way between the 3-4 of us we always score the deals!

I have 4 teen daughters who I'm trying to wean away from being cosmetics snobs. One of them used to save all her money to go to the MAC counter. When I managed to find her an item almost exactly the same and about 1/4th the price in Superdrug - I think she started paying attention!

Here in Ireland some chemists stock Catrice brand. I think it's German. It's all reasonably priced and lovely colours - can be quite classy. I love their mineral foundation - and I hate foundation!

For everyday and for my teens we've used Boots Naturals alot and also Essence - even though they are aimed at teen girls I prefer the 'I don't have makeup on' look for everyday - so have picked up some great stuff from both of these. for very cheap.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

  • Oops almost forgot to add...don't know if this is allowed but at latestinbeauty.com you can get samples from skin/hair/body and high end stuff at that for £1. You pick 3 ever 30 days, and they usually have other offers on as well. No referral or anything needed, you can literally look around and see if there is anything worth having.

    Great website! xx
  • Nobody has mentioned perfume - I love Patchouli Oil as a perfume - it's expensive if you OD on it but if you just use a tiny dab of it on special occasions then a 10ml bottle will last ages. I use a couple of drops in a bottle of baby oil spray for after my bath or shower. It's very concentrated so it goes a long way.

Tea Tree Oil is fab for spots and bites, again, it's highly concentrated so a dab is all it takes. I always break out in spots in Spring for some reason, I use a couple of drops mixed in with my moisturiser lotion to help calm down my skin 24 hours a day. It could also be used in a toner I guess, I've never thought of that before.

Talking about toners, Witch Hazel water is the best astringent I've ever tried. I'll put some tea tree oil in it later :) I've used Clinique 3 step for almost 20 years - I know it's more than £5 but it works out cheaper than a lot of cheap brands and prevents my skin from scaring small children lol! I now substitute their toner for Witch Hazel water and really don't notice any difference, I'm happier knowing it's not got any additives though, and it works out cheaper.

I regularly buy a chunk of cocoa butter (the naturally extracted type as it's far more pure) and put it in a jam jar. When I need it (cracked heels, intense moisturiser for chapped hands/face etc, making lip balms, solid perfumes etc) I remove the lid and pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it before slathering it on or mixing with a small amount of beeswax (also heated to make soft) if you don't have a microwave you can stand it in a pan of hot water on the stove. As the mixture cools down it becomes harder - you can make it as hard or as soft as you like by adding different amounts of beeswax because it's denser than the cocoa butter.

You can add all sorts of oils to it depending on what needs fixing! I use peppermint oil for a fab tingly lip plumping balm, tea tree oil to rub into bites (and to a baby oil spray to keep the mozzies away - I use this one at night after my bath/shower), and my favourite make - patchouli or sandalwood oil (or whatever you prefer) to make it into a solid perfume etc, just consult your imagination :)

Melted cocoa butter is also good mixed with oats as a face mask as it takes a while to solidify, it doesn't allow the oats to flake off so easily. I also add oats and sugar or salt to aqueous cream for a body scrub.

A left over ripe banana mashed and mixed with a small glug of quite warm olive oil is great for a hot hair treatment, leave it on for 20 minutes before washing it out.

Maybe we should have a separate thread for everyone's recipes :D

Well obviously a brilliant referral for that superdrug balm as alternative to Clarins Flash Balm. Went into town at lunchtime, and they are in stock of everything except that!! Clearly a very popular product, and some people have already cottoned on before me!!

The offer is on until 13th April, so still some time yet for them to get some stock in ...

Also went into boots and haven't been lucky enough to be one of those people getting 1000 free points!!
