HELP! Phone call from Eze-Talk.....are they going to switch me from BT?

  • I've just had a phone call from a company who I am SURE said they were BT to start with, letting me know that my monthly charges will be going down to £12.50. The woman who phoned had a strong foreign accent and started giving me a run down of call charges etc.
She then asked me to confirm my name and address and that some paperwork would be in the post in the next 48hrs, to which she asked what part of the country it was?! That rang alarm bells as I said that as I get post from them anyway (thinking they were BT) that they should already know. I asked them if they were definately BT, to which she replied 'No, I am from Eze-Talk'. I then said 'No, I am with BT and have a contract with them.' She apologised and said goodbye.

I didn't give any bank details but am worried that they are going to send an order to BT to change my phone provider (She DID say she was from BT, it sounds completely different to Eze-Talk after all!). I have googled them and seen numerous complaints about this troublesome company cold calling and swapping peoples accounts without their permission. I don't know how they got my number as I am registered with the TPS.

    Any advice anyone?

The same thing happened to me today and I did not give them any bank account details as well. Did they send you a bill after all or am I ok? Please answer because I am terrified from what I am reading!!!

I had a phone call from Eze-Talk this morning. After initially saying it was to confirm something about my BT account, the caller went on to say that our charges would be going down and asked me to confirm my details. When I refused, saying I didn't know who they were, he told me that he was Eze-Talk. I said my account was with BT so he told me the government was forcing BT to split its business up into several smaller companies and Eze-Talk was taking over our area! When asked for details in writing, he put the phone down on me.

This is exactly the patter I had to listen to yesterday, I initially thought the guy was from BT then smelt a rat. I challenged him about pretneding to be from BT and he got quite stroppy saying 'I have never said I was from BT' . I told him I was not interested and put the phone down. Hadnt given out any bank details (I never will over the phone) but had confirmed my name, adresse and DOB when I thought he was a BT employee.

Today the phone went again, same rubbish, even sounded like same guy, as soon as he mentioned eze talk I tried to say Im not interested, he just ingonred me, talked over the top of me gradually getting louder and more aggresive. In the end I said 'Will you please shut up and listen, Im not interested', he then shouts 'No you shut up and listen to me!' I have elderly relatives who would have been really upset by this, I do hate telesales!!

Going to ring BT in a bit a let them no I have no intention of switching to ezetalk, and get them to note that on my account, if they will. The number of cold calls I get a week is getting ridiculas, and im registered with tps.

Anyway, this is my first post on the forum, so hello everyone! :j
  • My elderly Mother has received an invoice for charges from this company, this is a scam and money was about to be taken from her bank account, how they got her details I have yet to find out! I have reported this to Cheshire Police.

Hi My name is Peter and i work for eZe-Talk in the customer services dept.

Firstly i would like to apologise for the way the sales agent spoke to you. We do not tolerate abusive, or dishonest behaviour from any of our sales agents. I would ask anybody that has been dealt with in anything other than a professional manner call and report this to us. only then can we take the relevant steps to make sure this does not happen again. our freephone number is 0800 083 9432.

As part of the distant selling regulations all sales calls must be recorded. This is for the customers and our own protection. this can be used to identify any mis-selling that occurs.

If you are willing to provide us with your name, address and telephone number we can remove your details from our sales database. this will ensure you do not get called by us again in the future.

    I Hope this helps

    Kind regards
    Peter

    Hi Ian

My Name is Peter and i work for eZe-Talk in the customer services Dept.

I just wanted to make you aware the only way we ever get bank details is if they are provided to us by the customer. If this is a new account that has been set up with us then these details would of been provided during the original sales call. we can also only set up up an account for her if the account holder agrees to set up a Direct Debit and gives us permission to do so. If you think your mother did not do this, then we can listen to the sales call to determine the best course of action.

    I hope this helps

    Kind regards
    Peter

  • I would like to add that this issue is now resolved, all monies refunded and account closed, not that any of it legitimately existed in the first place! I have had no further contact other than a written and spoken apology from the company.
  • All your experiences are typical of Eze Talks practices. It appears they target the elderly and vunerable in a systematic way, fraudulently setting up direct debits to steal money from peoples bank accounts. In our case, they did this by pretending to be BT, then obtained our account details and the next day tried to set up a direct debit. We are pursuing this through the Police and I urge everybody else who has experienced this to also do the same. By all means go though OFCOM and the like as well, but don't expect anything to be done. This is a criminal matter as they tried to steal through deception. Our solicitor has looked into this and they say it is not a civil matter, but a criminal matter. They have contravened the Theft Act of 1968 'attempting Pecuniary advantage by deception', the Misrepresentation Act 1967, Fraud as defined by Lord Herschell in Denny vs Park (1889) and the Privacy and electronic regulations 2003 (EC Directive).

The exact same happened to me today! I had several calls from them last week then another tonight, I ended up shouting and saying 'Just LISTEN' and he continued to talk over me. Not the way to do business if you ask me:mad:

Like you I am with BT and have TPS, having worked in an outbound call centre I know that you cannot call people with TPS as the company can get into trouble!
