HELP! Phone call from Eze-Talk.....are they going to switch me from BT?

I've just had a phone call from a company who I am SURE said they were BT to start with, letting me know that my monthly charges will be going down to £12.50. The woman who phoned had a strong foreign accent and started giving me a run down of call charges etc.
She then asked me to confirm my name and address and that some paperwork would be in the post in the next 48hrs, to which she asked what part of the country it was?! That rang alarm bells as I said that as I get post from them anyway (thinking they were BT) that they should already know. I asked them if they were definately BT, to which she replied 'No, I am from Eze-Talk'. I then said 'No, I am with BT and have a contract with them.' She apologised and said goodbye.
I didn't give any bank details but am worried that they are going to send an order to BT to change my phone provider (She DID say she was from BT, it sounds completely different to Eze-Talk after all!). I have googled them and seen numerous complaints about this troublesome company cold calling and swapping peoples accounts without their permission. I don't know how they got my number as I am registered with the TPS.
Any advice anyone?

I can't see how they can switch you without bank details and BT aren't going to cancel your contract as the long running thread on evening calls shows.
Giving your name and address to someone who rings you is asking for trouble. I won't even speak to the people who call me saying they are from BT. I insist on getting everything in writing. As BT already have my email mailing address and email there's no need for me to say anything to anyone who calls me.0 -

They already had my name and address as she read it out over the phone. But then I suppose they could probably get that from the phone book!
As for changing my accounts over (even without bank details) I have heard of this happening and then the company sending a bill. It does happen and I want to prevent this. I wouldn't read the evening calls thread as it has no relevance to my problem, so I wouldn't know it said anything about Bt contracts.
Anyway, can anyone advise me as to what to do should this happen please?Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]0 -

Just had one of Eze-talk's cold calls. Yes they do give the impression that they are BT (not helped, it has to be said, by both companies using Indian call centres). It's only when they start asking for bank details that the truth comes out (and then only if you start to get difficult with them) .
I terminated the call without giving any financial information, so am assuming they can't do anything. Just to be on the safe side though I have notified BT that any attempt to switch services by Eze-talk is fraudulent; also have lodged complaint with TPS (with whom I am registered). Finally fired off an email to Eze-talk referring them to their own website warning about fraudulent calls from telecoms scammers.0 -
Do not speak to strangers on the phone and only buy or accept something when you phone first.
Get caller ID and an aswering machine too.
And don't be stupid.0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Eze-talk and Max-talk are one and the same. Eze-talk has supposedly taken over Max-talk. My 90 year old Dad has been plagued with calls from both Companies claiming they are acting on behalf of BT as their lo call rate is no longer valid. They asked him for his bank details and when he refused to give them they said they had them anyway. Both Companies have writted to him "confirming" his change to them. I originally telephone Max-talk and cancelled the "order" then approx. 18 days later Eze-talk contacted him with the exactly the same sales talk. My Dad is deaf and could not understand what they were saying. He then received a letter "confirming" his "order". I telephone Eze-talk to cancel but could not get through on any of the options given for queries, sales etc. - the telephone just rang. Eventually I selected the option of Credit Control - hey presto a voice on the other end. Eze-talk then refused to accept my word to cancel - even though I had already done so through Max-talk and Eze Talk were using the SAME REFERENCE NUMBER!!!!. As they had the wrong bank details they are unable to take any money anyway
HOW TO STOP THIS - contact BT and if you have been on a low user rental - change to BT Basic, this is almost the same as Low User rate, ask BT to make a note on your account that you do not wish to have your account taken over by any other Company such as Max-talk, Eze-talk etc. I have just done this with an extremely helpful BT person and I am hoping that this is the end of it.0 -
Nothing easy about this lot! They first spoke with my Mother (aged 70) nearly a year ago, I am still awaiting confirmation that any contract actually exists (been promised a transcript of the sales call since Christmas), they are a huge failure and in my opinion they are a scam company which I would advise EVERYONE to avoid like the plague. They DID somehow manage to set up a DDM on my Mother's bank account which the Halifax cancelled when they realised there was nothing to back it up, they continue to send threatening letters and debt collection agency letters despite having been told they can ONLY talk to me about this. I am losing my patience now and will happily go online to warn others, to warn EzeTalk and to generally tell the world what a bunch of idiots this company is comprised of. I have seen no evidence of any contract, no evidence of them having ever actually done anything for the money they keep invoicing and no evidence of customer care, ever!0
