:rotfl:Mr B and his bad joke!!!
How lovely everyone is getting in the garden, sorting out and pottering:D
Not been able to do much today too many kids around all with other things planned for me to do
I did manage to stick some summer flowering bulbs in, only because i had then hanging over me not planted,,still loads left and i am sure they wont???? flower this year? Too late I think.
Have 3 (of the very large) allium up and about 10 inches above ground,,,so pleased i managed to get those in last year.
Grass was cut today but my poor poppy seeds were probably blown into beyond as the lawn mower chucked grass across my newly planted seeds and plants:( I have more incase they didnt work and its too cold or too early.
Have sown more carrots, chives and few toms oh and 2 more squash my last 2 the leaves shrivelled up at about 5 inches tall,,too cold on windowsill maybe.
My other toms all in 4 tier green house,,3 different varietys doing really well along with beetroot and some more sweet peas.
My carrots, potatoes and broccoli in pots/bags in the garden all looking good nice healthy plants :D
I have lots of garlic in pots, it came up a while ago and has lovely long green leaves but some have turned a bit yellow ?:undecided
I would LOVE to do lots in garden tomorrow but someone has invited us to a christening,,,how inconvienient !!
    Happy gardening!

p.s I have 3 salad plants untouched by slugs in the garden!!! I covered them with the circular glass part from my old washing machine door :-)

    I've been Money Tipped!
oooh, I too am intrigued about the double depth grobags?? I usually smush my growbags so everythings loose inside fold it in half then chop it completely in half and use each half on its side for one tom plant, if you get me, much more roomy!

    PS loving the gardening joke!

Ah...you spotted my small growing space then? :D

I've used ordinary growbags before, with decent results, but thought I'd treat them this year. When you make a double-depth one, I assume you take the whole top off the bottom one, and then the bottom out of the top one, IYSWIM? How do you do that without it all falling out then? :still want my confused smiley back:

I dont know the definitive answer.....
But I think you must be right..... in that the bottom one should have the top taken off.... and some of the soil taken out too....
Then the top one have the bottom cut off... just sitting in the top of the bottom one....
You could do the whole magic table cloth trick... by pulling out the bottom part of the top grow bag mega quick :D taaaa daaaa :D:o:rotfl:

Done a bit more today. Sown white beetroot in half of the vegetable patch. Think I'll use the other half for cauliflowers, which I planted today in another one of the tubs. Got one left for the parsnips. I've mown the lawn, and put the clippings into the compost bin, interlayered with the shredded paper as planned.

My neighbour has sprayed his side of the fence with some sort of fence-treatment stuff. And my kitchen window. And my potatoes. And the gooseberry bush I moved to his side of the garden. And all the tubs I sowed seed in yesterday. And the two little ornamental thingies that MBE snr made.

I don't think it's too serious. The gooseberry bush got the worst of it, but there's no fruit on it yet so hopefully things will be ok.

Quite a productive weekend, all in all. I think I'm a bit late with the carrots and stuff, but last year I didn't even start my thread until June, so I'm way ahead of that! :D

I so desperately want to grow something this year, other than the blasted weeds that appear to thrive despite my best efforts  but unfortunately I appear to be cursed with black thumbs as opposed to green fingers :o
I also have a house deplete of window sills so have not attempted to sow anything into the various pots I've been acquiring, & glad I did hold out as that frost thingie Annie gave, says we could not be clear for another couple of weeks yet.

Have you seen the programme on a Weds evening on BBC2? I think it's 8pm in most areas, & the young lady is using an actual back garden of a terraced house! I think it's called 'An Edible Garden' & she too, is growing flowers among her veg to encourage the friendlier insects but the flowers are the sort you can eat too. She made some interesting fritters from dandelion heads last week & a friend had a go at nettle beer, but apparently it wasn't as tasty as hoped :D

Try anyway. You'll get better with practice. ;)

And yes, I've been watching the Edible Garden with interest. Liked the thought of radish seed pods in the last one. :)

aaaaaaaaaah got my greenhouse set up yesterday by the firm who supplied it and then - down came the rain - and greenhouse was flooded, rain coming in in the 4 corners and ive got an electric socket in it. Put all my towels down to try and stop it getting into the socket. This monring all towels are so heavy with water I can hardly lift them. Im so so very angry, it didnt come cheap and I didnt expect this to happen. I can see the light through the corners, he hasnt sealed them. I have tried ringing this monring to complain but no answer as yet. I did try to fill the corners in with allsorts of things even putting sheets of polythene over greenhouse but didnt work.

Why is everthing you have done nowadays ever right. He wasnt a novice and has worked for the company for many years. Took 3 hrs to put up at a cost of £123!!!!!!

I've been having a quiet(ish) time regarding the garden recently.

All my seeds were planted over the past 2 months. Sprouts have really come on well. The brocolli has too. My tomatoes seemed to take ages to sprout! I've had to stop myself observing them every few hours.:o

Yesterday I noticed that my cucumbers have started sprouting. I think my runner beans have too.

Chives & lettuce appear to be doing ok.

Next weekend I plan to re-pot my sprouts & toms & brocilli into bigger pots to encourage a bit more growth.

Longer term I'll be putting the brocolli, sprouts & beans out into the garden, but not til late may.

Tomatoes & salad stuff will remain in the greenhouse in bigger pots.

My courgettes have not sprouted yet. Neither have the 2nd tomato batch I planted.

    Patience isn't half a virtue!
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
  • oh nooo Doris u poor thing :-( what a nightmare and you were so thrilled. You will get it sorted,,keep that lovely thought of filling it with seeds and plants.
I hope they come back tomorrow and seal it properly for you.
I thought it was just us that sort of thing happened to...we never have anything installed or made right, tonight we spent an hour trying to figure out what we need to 'sort out' as in sort the mess left behind from recent bathroom being installed,,,grout not done properly,,silicone not done right, new floor scratched ,i could go on but this is a gardening thread!!! Anyhow lets think of gardening and sunshine instead!!
good luck getting them to sort it :-)
