    Just a quick update:

I've done almost nothing this month, apart from applying a mulch of horse manure / mushroom compost. :o (I have been away 3 weekends out of 4.) I still haven't got the Mantis tiller to run properly.

I've been a bit worried about the weather, so haven't planted anything outdoors yet. I have lots of tomatoes and chillies on the windowsill doing nicely.

Most of the seed I have says to sow in April anyway, so I'm not too concerned. All being well, next week I'll get the potatoes started; they look ready to go. I also intend to get some radishes, parsnips, carrots and spring onions going in tubs. Then I'll start thinking about what to plant in the vegetable patch.

The rhubarb's coming along very nicely indeed - I might pick some to take to some friends when I visit this weekend, if they're lucky. :)

I wanted to have a bash at some celery, as it's a nice addition to stews. Has anyone tried to grow it in tubs?

The gooseberry bush that I moved doesn't seem to have suffered unduly - leaves are sprouting nicely. I'm still debating whether to move the other one too.

Hopefully, I'll have a bit more time to get stuck in next month.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I moved pots from windowsill to outside greenhouse last weekend. I have been not looking at the pots of earth for a week, owing to rain, darkness, & the hope that when I look this weekend I will see multiple sproutlage!

I hope to get some reward, as according to my diary I have another round of seend planting to do next weekend - courgettes (never done before) cucmbers (want to do better than last year) and round 2 of tomatoes (trying to spread them out a little).

Mr B, good luck with celery i have no clue how to grow it. Not done much either apart from looking after my seedlings. I covered the ones in small greenhouse with fleece last nite, hope they are ok as it is pretty cold. My rhubarb is also looking fab,,its been in a few years but last year my son cut every bit off instead of leaving some of the newer bits,,i thought it may not come back, read u are supposed to leave a few new stalks. If my rasps fruit i will be able to make my fav rhubarb and rasp crumble :-)

Some of my potatoes i put in are up,,only the few i put in 2 bags, not the ones in the ground.
Gooseberry and redcurrants both covered in green leaves.
Garlic, broccoli and carrots outside still growing upward.
    Peppers,toms,squash,pumpkin,basil all happy on windowsills

Lemonjelly i too want to grow courgette and cuc,,tried courgette last yr had one or two small ones,,i grew one in a huge pot but the leaves went yellow and some of the courgettes shrivelled up i assume i didnt water them but i did try to water every day,,hmmm will try again on other side of my garden ,,that side everything was in pots and did not do as well.
Think i will follow your lead and try to plant more toms,,to try to prolong fruiting although just remembered that last year I stuck the side shoots I removed from my toms into compost and they grew and fruited about 2-3 weeks after the parent plant so my just do that again.

Just have to remember to water seedlings in greenhouse as i tend to forget !!

Ok, so this weekend I put up my 2nd pvc greenhouse. I have now planted my courgette seeds & cucumber seeds. Kirsty my cucs didn't go too well last year - my own fault as they were in pots which were too small for them! The small fruits themselves were lovely! I am determined to do a better job this year.

I have also planted some runner beans - thought I'd give it a try.

I have a variety of things sprouting - toms (first batch), sprouts, brocolli. I also planted some flowery things to encourage bees, & that is coming up.

My cress is doing well! :D

Worryingly, the weather forecast this morning mentioned the "frost" word. MrBE, as a neighbour, did you hear anything (or if you read this later, did you experience any frost?)

Didn't notice anything. I've still not put anything in the greenhouse yet though!

I didn't do as much as I wanted over the weekend. I've planted my spuds, and potted on a few things but that's all. I still can't get this damn tiller to run. It'll start, but cuts out after a short time.

I was putting the rubbish out late last night, & it felt cold. I'll do an inspection tonight when I'm home from work, but feel we got away with it. Tonight is another potentially cold un. Supposed to get better after that, with a nice weekend!:j

Chives & lettuce also starting to poke through the compost tip. Also noticed lots of life going on in my 2 composters - should be good for next years crop!

Good luck with the tiller - what you got planned? Removing the whole lawn? I'm hoping with the 2 greenhouses I've enough room - ran out of space last year. Fingers crossed!:)

I think two more vegetable plots about 8' x 4' should do.

As it was such a beautiful sunny day today, I've just mown the lawn for the first time this year. I have also purloined two of the four pallets I need to make a compost bin. :D I still need a couple of scaffold boards to edge my first bed.

    It'll be allright though.:D
