MrBadexample your gardening/planting seems to be coming togethernicely ,,,how come your pots are so neat and clean? Mine are a mess after seeing yours,,actually some of mine blew over after i had just potted them on GRRRR
I too have a gooseberry bush with the same green shoots now showing,,,do u know when we have to net them at all? I assume its when the fruit appears? I know we have to look for insects making their home on the bush but i havent managed to do that yet.

Pots? If you mean the black ones I've got the tomatoes & chillies in - they're not especially clean. They've been home to spiders in the greenhouse over winter. :p They're inside still, so won't blow over. ;)

I've never netted gooseberries. The main thing you have to keep an eye out for is sawfly. Lots of little caterpillar-like thingies on the leaves. You need to get them quickly, or they'll strip your plant bare. Mine were hit badly last year - this year I'll be ready for 'em. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I'm hoping & praying that my seeds continue to sprout upwards.:)

I'm starting already to ponder when to put my trays into the greenhouse, or whether I should keep them indoors for a little longer (running out of space, & want to plant some more stuff).

Thanks for the good wishes everybody!:T:beer:

kirsty - regarding the wilko greenhouse, as soon as you have pots of stuff in it, you don't need anything to weigh it down imo - I've never weighed mine down!

  • Mr Badexample i will follow your lead and not net my gooseberrys and will keep my eye out for the bugs u mentioned, thankyou! yep i meant ur black pots,,mine always have soil all over the place!
Thanks Lemonjelly will think about the wilko greenhouse ;-) I too really want to stick stuff outdoors in greenhouse,,running out of space and also want to plant more.
My garlic is stretching upwards along with allium bulbs i put in in jan. Crocus and daffs looking lovely am hoping to find a bit of time before the weekend to try to plan where things are going to be planted and what else i want to plant.
    happy gardening all :-)

I'm avoiding looking at me pots for a day, in the hope of returning to multiple sproutlage!:)

BTW, we're famous - in the weekly email & all that!:D

  • Lemonjelly talking of multiple sproutlage!!! I had a huge shock this evening,,had not looked in the propagator (unheated) ontop of our fridge for a few days as been really busy,,,the pumkin and squash seeds were HUGE!! I was so excited and made a huge gasp so my 3 kids all came running in to see,,,my boys just looked at me shook their heads and went back to the playstation but my girl was just as thrilled as i was :-)
So a bit of potting on tomorrow and i left the lid off for tonight. Onion seeds have sprouted too so will pot them on when i get round to it. I really really need to find more space or decide what can go outside in the 4 tier greenhouse. I think my sweetpeas can go out there in that now but not sure???? they are all fine healthy sized seedlings about 4/5inchs tall.
Hadnt seen weekly email till u said lol hope they are not following any of my bad examples of gardening lol

Kirsty the sweet peas should be fine in the greenhouse. Mine have germinated in our plastic Greenhouse thingy. Be warned that squashes do grow fast and are very tender. DH planted a courgette early last year and it took up half the kitchen window by the time it was warm enough to go out.

I'm still trying to avoid looking at the seed pots.
However I did notice that some of the bulbs I planted in the garden last year have come up, & this morning as I left I had my first daffodil flower.

I'm hopeful that there will be progress soon!

I really don't recall waiting this long last year.

Doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong, no bad examples there. Personally I'd wait until easter to put stuff outside though - but depends where you are.

Mr BE, you got your machine working neighbourino?:)

I know what you mean about getting excited, my peppers, chilli and aubergine seeds have started to peep through and I was over the moon as I seem to have waited longer than last year for them to sprout and was getting a bit worried that they had rotted. This week I have sown loads of different seeds and got everything in the Greenhouse, can't fit anything else in. Have bought 2 lots of those Flower buckets from Morrisons and plan to grow carrots in some of them and courgettes in a couple of them as they take up so much room in the Garden. I've also been busy up at the Allotment, almost finished digging it over so hoping to sow some peas up there tomorrow and will be ready to put potatoes in over Easter. :D

 Not as such. My mate got it running, which is a start, but you can't get the choke closed or it cuts out. I think it needs a bit more carb cleaner. Not going to have much time this weekend, what with all the rugby and recovering from hangovers that'll be going on. :o

The weather has turned for the better methinks/hopes.

I was working through the night sat-sun, so slept early sunday, but awoke to a lovely afternoon!

Today was also a nice morning!

I took the initiative & moved all my plant pots from the windowsill into the greenhouse outside - being hopeful of no more frosts.

I've planted some chives, lettuce & cress this weekend. Next planting session is in 2 weeks. Will be hoping for some sincere growth from some of the seeds put in to date - seem to be taking extra long to sprout this year...I'm hoping the early morning sun will "encourage" a little more growth.

I need to fight the urge to inspect the seedlings every day...:o
