I was sitting on the back seat of a busy bus this morning when 2 young men got on and sat at the back on the opposite side from me. One of them put his feet up on the opposite seat - there are at least 2 signs saying 'Do not put your feet up' with an illustration for the dim-witted.

'Can you put your feet down', I said. 'F*** does it have to do with you?' he replied.

Then he made as if to grab me quickly, so I headbutted him - his friend did nothing.

I got of the bus quickly and walked the rest of the way to work; I mean, he was on the deck holding his nose. I'm not sure I would do the same again but I hate it when people ignore pretty standard etiquette when there is no excuse.

    Rant over.

Old softie...dont forget your chainsaw next time you travel on bus. Would be a much more permanent solution

The Police came and questioned me last night, turned out that the guy had to go to A & E to fix his nose.

I told them just what happened. They said not to worry, both of them had warrants out, the guy I butted was now in custody and they were far more interested in a description of his friend, what he was wearing etc. who has eluded them thus far.

I still have a sore head.

How did they find out where you live?

They had CCTV and I think someone recognised me - it wasn't far from where I live.

I'm not in any trouble and that's all I care about.

Had a woman try tell my once, though i was in a raging mood and io told her to shut up, which she did, i kept my feet on the seat.

Very brave of you - why do you think it is acceptable practice to put your dirty feet on a seat that someone has to sit on?

i used to be a bus driver and one day an elderly lady came up to me and said that there wasnt anywhere she could sit

i walked along the aisle of the bus, saw someone had put her bags on the seat next to her and told her that if she wanted to use the extra seat for her bags then I would charge her for an extra ticket.

End result- she moved her bags and the old lady got a seat :-)

But IMO the OP was waaaaaay over the top in this

There probably will be a compo claim for injuries, if he had a broken nose he would probably have had to have surgery to correct it. Most buses have CCTV nowadays and I would not be at all surprised if the OP was arrested

:T That annoys me massively, especially when it's just one small handbag and you can tell they're only putting it there to stop other people from sitting next to them! Even if I have loads of bags on the bus, if it starts to get crowded I'll put some on the floor between my feet and pile the rest on my knees so someone can sit down.

However, putting bags on the seat doesn't annoy me nearly as much as people who sit on the seat closest to the aisle, leaving the seat next to the window completely empty

I also hate it when people put their bag on the empty seat next to them and don't move it.

If I see this on my train, I will make a bee-line for the seat and ask the woman (nearly always a woman) to please 'excuse me'. I inwardly smile.

  • You know what I hate? Aggressive people who think it's their job to enforce the rules. Yes the guy was out of line for telling you to f off, but that's not an excuse to physically attack someone.
I've used my handbag/luggage to give myself extra space on the train but only when there are plenty of other seats available. I do it to let people know I'm not feeling sociable. There's been a few times when someone has asked me to move my bag so they could sit down, and I've looked around the (mostly empty) train carriage and said "Well I could, but if you sit over there you'll get a whole table to yourself." It's usually just people being contrary. I did have one woman say she didn't want to sit on her own because there were some drunk lads down the other end of the train. I moved my bags for her.

I've also used the opposite seat on a train as a footrest so I can have a kip. I take my shoes off, or put them on my handbag though because I also don't like the idea of sitting where someone else's shoes have been. In my experience, people who take up several seats and the table with their laptop and electrical equipment are FAR more annoying than a bit of foot crud on the seat.
