I'm not sure I believe it either, but putting feet on seats on public transport is (imho) a disgusting habit.
Who knows what's on the soles of shoes - and other passengers will sit on those seats at some time in the future, possibly spoiling their clothes.
HOWEVER, I would not do the same as the OP and challenge this behaviour - the little oik could be a knife-carrying head-case.
It's happened before.0 -
Dunno if it is true or not, but if it is, OP should have sat back after the headbutting and put his feet on the git on the floor. Soon as he asks him to stop, ask "the f%&k's it got to do with you?"0

While I agree with you, I can understand why some people do it, having been thrown from the back seat more than once when the driver had to put his foot on the brakes suddenly.'You can't change the past, you can only change the future' Gary Boulet.

I assumed the OP was talking about those people who sit on a seat designed for 2 and place their back against the window and feet on the part of the seat near the aisle.
If the driver slammed the brakes on hard, anyone sitting in this postion would be more prone to injury than passengers facing forward with their feet on the floor and hands available to grab the seat in front.
However, having read the post again, it WAS the back seat.
We have a few buses with this design on one of the routes that serve us and (imho) it's a very poor design.
Anybody with half a brain (obviously not the designers then) would have realised that some people who don't care about others would use the opposite seat as a footrest.
I once got on a full bus and the only seat available was next to a young girl (maybe 18 to 20) but she had her feet on the seat.
She moved them so I could sit down but I said 'you've had your feet on THAT seat, I'll sit near the window and YOU can have that one".
She moved for me.
Wonder if she ever put her feet on the seat again?0 -
I think it is our business. when I travel on a bus I do not want the dogsh*t, crushed cigarette ends, old chewing gum and other debris transferred from the bottom of someone's shoe onto clothes that I have washed, ironed and generally cared for.
I, too, will say something - exactly what I have written above - if some half-wit says it's not my business.
What level of bad behaviour become "our business" - rape, murder, arson? And if anyone thinks i am taking it to extremes, people do stand by and let these things happen (I work in criminal law)
ps - the assault by headbutting could actually be more serious than common assault - ABH is very likely, unlawful wounding? Maximum 5 years in prison - however all the circumstances would be taken into account.Sealed Pot challenge 2011 member 1051 - aiming for £365

I totally agree with what you are saying but the sad fact is that to challenge anyone committing a crime nowadays can place you at serious risk of injury or death at the hands of the perpetrators.
How many accounts have you read about people being run down by their own cars when some scumbag is stealing it and they try to stop them.
How many accounts have you read about blokes being kicked to death for asking scumbags to stop harrassing their girlfriends?
I don't want "the dogsh*t, crushed cigarette ends, old chewing gum and other debris transferred from the bottom of someone's shoe onto clothes that I have washed, ironed and generally cared for" either - but I want a knife in my ribs even less.
So, I'll continue keeping quiet about feet on public transport seats and maybe save my outrage at the degeneration of society until I see something happening that I really feel worth risking my life for.
It's a sad indictment of society, but it's where we are.0 -

Follows the logical 'step-up' route of crime...like chewing gum...chewing tobacco...then weed....
Another well known and documented strand is:
Swallowing sweets...then vitamins....going over to omega 3...headache tablets...then speed
yours is the third most common one....putting feet on ground to walk...on pedals to cycle....on bus seats....rape...murder someone
:cool:You have the right to remain silent.Anything you do say will be misquoted and then used against you

i walked along the aisle of the bus, saw someone had put her bags on the seat next to her and told her that if she wanted to use the extra seat for her bags then I would charge her for an extra ticket.
End result- she moved her bags and the old lady got a seat :-)
But IMO the OP was waaaaaay over the top in this
There probably will be a compo claim for injuries, if he had a broken nose he would probably have had to have surgery to correct it. Most buses have CCTV nowadays and I would not be at all surprised if the OP was arrested
I wonder why the lady didn't just ask the person to move her things. Sometimes I put my bags on the seat next to me. I don't always pay attention to who gets on and off, if someone needs a seat all they have to do is ask me to move my things. It's not that hard.0
