Rant: Inconsiderate dog owners !

Over the last few weeks we have found an increasing amount of dog mess left in the middle of the pavement near our house, often right outside our driveway. It's difficult to avoid when walking home from work at night, as the streetlights aren't very bright. We've thankfully not stepped right in it yet, but have had a couple of close shaves.

We live in a quiet residential area and we often see dog-walkers, but most are considerate and pick up their dogs' mess; it was rare to see poop until recently.

I just think this it such a disgusting and anti-social thing for people to let their dog foul the pavements. Pooper-scoopers are not difficult or dirty to use. Even if owners really can't stomach the clear-up, at least make the dog go in the road gutter or something, so we don't have to walk in it !:mad::mad::mad:

I may be jumping to conclusions, but don't think it's a coincidence that I've seen a young lad walking a labrador puppy in the area recently. I haven't caught him in the act yet but I will certainly confront him if I do and give him a piece of my mind !

Rant over. Thanks for listening.

Report it to your local council. They have a whole department for this sort of thing. I assume they initiate Operation Poop Patrol or something. Don't assume it's anyone. Let the council deal with it.

We have the same trouble and I have actually caught a few of them in the act.

The first was a man of a certain age. He declared that he was permitted to allow his animal to deposit its fecal matter wherever he wanted and that I should mind my own business. He claimed to be blind and ostentatiously showed me a white stick. I noticed that he looked left and right before he crossed the road and that he was carrying a newspaper....

The second was an elderly lady. She initially ignored me and my protestations about her dog leaving an entire ziggurat of poop on the path outside our house. Later she began to shriek that she was being harrassed and requested a passer-by to call the police. The passer-by ignored her so I got my mobile out and said that I would call the police for her. She ran off immediately that I offered to do this call for her.

The third simply offered physical violence when accosted so I desisted from further discussion.

I obtained the addresses of all of these three - mainly by asking other dog-walkers if they knew the culprits and in once case by following them home most discretely. This latter was the "blind" man whom I saw looking behind him ever now and then as I hid behind a bush.

I then passed their details to the Council Dog Warden and they said that they would make a visit to them and point out the issues. Mostly I have not seen any of them since...

So HOORAH for the local council!

A few years ago a friend of mine used to 'scoop' the offending item into a carrier bag and hand it back to the owners with a smile and say 'I think this is yours', then walk away. Yes, there was the odd bit of verbal thrown back, but it did seem to solve the problem.

She even delivered it back to a dog owners front door, politely knocked on the door and gave it to them (in a bag of course). :D

I'm very lucky where I live, lots of dogs but they all seem to have very responsible owners and pick up the mess.

The worst place I've ever seen for it was the Crufts dog show at the NEC in Birmingham. I would have thought this lot would have been a bit more responsible, but it was everywhere.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

If they cant stomach it dont get a dog in first place!!!!
we have to dodge dog poop every time i walk my kids to school you literally cannot walk more than 3 meteres without a huge pile off poop being on the pavement.
Its got that bad that i have resorted to driving my children to the school, which makes me feel lazy considering it is only a 15 minute (with children) 5 minute(on my own) walk!
  • We have had this problem because we are the only ones on our estate to have a dwarf wall. So before christmas I made a letter on the computer saying that there is cctv on the property and anyone leaving dog mess behind the video evidence will be given to the authorities.

Since then there hasn't been any dog mess there has been alot of dog walkers stopping and reading and even people who normally walk their dog on the other side of the road! It's worked though

    Maybe give that a try?

Whilst out running a dog ran out of a house at full speed and barking angrily which I recognised to be the bark of a pit bull!

I'd already started thinking of how to dealt with it once it had sunk its teeth into my leg. I felt it come into contact with my trainer (not bitten) but it didn't chase me as I ran very quickly down the street. I'm not sure if it was a pit bull, it might have been a bull terrier as it was too dark to see. I guess they have the same bark...

We had a problem with one resident of our cul de sac. She used to open the front door and allow her dog to run out and do his business in the communal green area - where all of the children play. I have no idea why she didn't just put him into her own back garden, although then she would have to pick up the poo.

One day someone's little girl slipped on the grass and fell in the faeces - the mother of the little girl picked it up with a carrier bag, knocked the womans door and when she opened it she launched the untied carrier bag into her living room :rotfl:

There was a big kefuffle about it at the time but I must admit I haven't seen the woman let her dog out the front to do his business since. Sometimes you've got to be a bit of a vigilante about these things!

My friend was bitten by a dog whilst out running. He debated whether to do anything about it and after a few days of feeling quite sore, eventually reported it to the police.

Turns out this dog had already bitten someone before and had been spared being put down on condition that it was always muzzled in public.

Dog's dead now. Owner's pretty p!ssed off I expect. But hey, they should have muzzled the dog.

It's not the animal.... it's the blo0dy owner.

I thought about reporting it to the police but didn't because I don't know if it would have bit me and I didn't know exactly which house it came out of.

Maybe they should start putting the owners down if they keep dangerous dogs that hurt people.
