    Hi Jess

For you...do you have any tea tree oil??? if so dab it on it takes away the itch and is antiseptic...if you dont have any try and get hold of one next time you are out..its great for allsorts of bites etc....

and for the cat...its no help now, but try putting a bit of chopped garlic in her food everyday...that should reduce the chance of her getting them again!

sounds lke you need to spray the house as well. I'd suggest going to the vet and getting something from them.

Hello, i am being driven crazy as i am covered in bites, all over my tummy and backs of my legs, they must be fleas but i don't understand it as i frontline my cat every 5 weeks. I found a flea in my sons bedroom, and one dead one on the cat yesterday after i frontlined her. I've just ordered some acclaim online but is there anything else i can do? My hubby has got 1 or 2 bites but they are really going for me and they look awful, i must have about 20 bites in clusters of 3 or 4 all over me. Is frontline the best stuff to use or is there anything else?

This is why before you get a pet make sure it's been treated for fleas first. I'm sure whoever you get the pet from will put the frontline on 2 days before you collect the pet, not you personally as you've already the cat, i'm talking about any potential pet owners out there.

Adult Fleas – jump onto your dog or cat, feed on its blood and then start laying eggs.

Eggs – one female lays up to 50 eggs per day, they drop off in carpets and bedding before hatching.

Larvae – the hatched eggs release larvae which move away from light, deeper into carpets and under furniture before developing into pupae. The larvae feed on organic debris and at this stage can consume tapeworm eggs, allowing them to become an intermediate host for the development of tapeworms.

This lifecycle can take as little as 2-3 weeks but can last up to 6 months. To rid your household from fleas, you must break this cycle.

A well-designed program is necessary to maintain a flea free environment, and prevention is definitely better than cure. There are many different flea products available today and the options can be confusing.

    Did you know?
Undisturbed and without a blood meal, a flea can live more than 100 days
    .

Frontline in itself does not kill fleas but sterilises them in order for them to stop reproducing. I suggest you buy a good house hold flea spray and spray all carpets, curtains etc, also wash any bedding. Here is a good household flea Indorex Household Flea Spray
This household spray contains both an insecticide to kill adult fleas in the carpet, and a flea hormone that prevents flea larvae from pupating. To be applied every 12 months

  • Hi Jess

Sorry to hear you are suffering from flea bites, Im prone to them too (hubbie isnt, typical!) when Ive been a bit lax with their flea control (very naughty of me as an ex VN with a dermatology certificate). It really doesnt take long for them to then become a problem, especially in hot weather.
Frontline is good and does kill them (Its program which sterilises them as far as Im aware, unless things have changed since I was in practice??).
I would definitely recommend a household spray (from a vet). I personally use Indorex, its good and it doesnt smell quite as bad as others do!
Also make sure you vaccum thoroughly and wash any bedding etc, wherever your cat goes in the house.
Its then just a matter of time until you get on top of the cycle and manage to break it and kill everything off.
For future control, maybe use a household spray as well as frontline, or discuss with your vet as there are always going to be new treatments/protocols to help keep them under control.
    Good luck!

The Acclaim you've ordered will work fine, as would Indorex. I'd suggest you change to Frontline Combo for your cats - this not only kills adult fleas like Frontline does, but breaks the lifecycle and prevents the eggs and larvae from reinfesting your house.

Don't feed your cat garlic, but making sure you eat some yourself might help reduce your attractiveness to fleas in the meantime. And make sure when you treat the house and cat you wash all bedding and throroughly hoover all carpets and soft furnishings at the same time. These measures alone won't eliminate the infestation but will help you get the numbers of fleas down quicker.

Thank you all for your great advice, i think they are mainly in my sons bedroom, the cat is 6 years old and very fluffy, she just about tolerates brushing but if i used a nit comb she'd shred my arms. Anyway woke up today with more bites on the backs of my legs, i hope the acclaim arrives soon ordered from vetuk on saturday the 16th. Have been hoovering and will definately eat more garlic thanks again Jess....
