You could try using a cotton bud with nail varnish remover and dabbing it or try smothering the ticks with vaseline. The vaseline will cut off the sir supply and it should drop off.Pad, started 28.11.08 running total £3674.91:T

Ok you need some tweezers and someone to hold the cat. sometimes u can get them of if u grab em as close to the skin as possible and really carefully and gently wriggle it about until it comes away, u do need the head to come out tho thats important, be careful it doesnt break off. I heard burning tick with a ciggie makes it let go, but i really dunno. try google too0

the knack is to soak them in baby oil all around use a cotton wool bud make sure its coated right next to the skin (this is so they cant grip)
then after a few mins you can easily remove them with a tweezers twist to pull off .
as above you need to remove the lot
I've done this several times with my 5 cats no problems doing it this way .
good Luck

I was told get a cotton wool pad and douse the pad in surgical spirits, than use that to prize the ticks off the cat. It's not a nice job, but needs must. I don't envy you :eek:0

Smothering the tick with Vaseline usually works, or surgical spirit on a cotton wool bud.0

get some twizzers and hold the tick as near to the cat's skin as possible, do not squeeze the tweezers too much as you could break the tick in two, then twist the tweezers so that the tick unscrews from the cat. If the tick is big enough you can hold it with your fingers and twist it out
other option, and only if you cna be sure you can do it, burnt the end of the tick with a fag, it will drop out but watch you don't burn the cat (I have not done this but I have seen it done)
then tomorrow go down to the vet or the pet shop and get the tick remover, it is a little plastic thing with a slit in it that slit between the tick and the cat and you just twist it out0 -

Our cat had 2 on his ears and we got them off by dabbing the ticks with surgical spirit on a cotton bud until they release. The surgical spirit also cleans the wound to stop infection. Pulling the ticks off without anything to make them let go is risky because if the head stays lodged in, really nasty infections can develop0
