CAT FLEAS - merged

Our cat actually liked having a shower!! Mad I know.
So we bought cat shampoo and used to give her a good shower which seemed to drown the fleas and wash some of the eggs out. Wasn't that effective long term but stopped her scratching like mad.
Yeah I am hoping it will at least give her some short term relief, even if they don't rid them completly, it will give her a bit of respite for a little while.
Thankfully they don't seem to be bothering her. Off to try the bath now, wish me luck. If my arms arn't ripped to ribbons I will let you know. :rotfl:Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
I used to do this as well, combing and drowning does work but make sure the fleas go under the water! Sometimes they float and then when you pour the water away they are left in the bowl and jump away to their escape! I used to put washing up liquid in and use hot water, someone told me to do this, not sure why though.
I have also heard that you can get the fleas between your fingernails and kill them by snapping/breaking them - eurgh but apparently it works.
I think I heard that teatree oil repels fleas.
I still prefer my frontline combo though

I looked on Vetuk and they don't seem to have the Frontline Plus on their website and when I googled it only International countries seem to have it.
Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK that has it?

OK so she has had her bath and you know what? She was really really good, had a little moan but just sat there while I stroked her behind her ears with one hand and lathered her up with the other hand.
Got LOADS of fleas off, she is just having a lick of herself, and I am going to go through her with a comb to get rid of the dead ones or any stragglers that made it dipping the comb in boiling hot water as this kills the fleas instantly.
The sly sods all went up to her neck away from the water and stayed there. She looks like a skinny siamease cat now.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Wow nice one, glad to hear you didn't get scratched and shredded! Must have been great seeing the fleas getting washed away too.0

I'm sure that Frontline Combo and Frontline Plus are only available in the UK by prescription0 -
Yes I can only get these through my vet.
Our local agricultural merchant sometimes has them behind the counter but not sure they can dispense without a prescription.
Aren't there places you can buy these cheaper online, if you get a prescription from your vet first though.0 -
Yes there are but I've not had the b***s yet to ask my vet for a prescription :rotfl: so end up paying way over the top.
I do buy Collaplex online though, no prescription needed. I was paying 33.50 from the vets and I get them now for 22.95 including p&p. for 60 days worth.
I'm just waiting for the day when they ask me why she's not on Collaplex anymore:o
What a wimp I am!!!0 -
Aw, I know what you mean, I haven't managed it either!0

I just stumbled across the info that regular Frontline is now available without a scrip in the UK:-

Frontline Combo still seems to be POM though.0
