Is Acclaim ok to use in the house if some one is pregnant?
I'm at my wits end now, my dog is infested with fleas, ive spent lots of money on supermarket stuff, but nothing has worked. My daughter is 6 mnths pregnant and is forever getting bitten ( she has always attracted mozzies aswell), and they seem to be all over the house.
I simply cannot affored expensive vet bills, and am considering taking my dog to a rescue centre, but he's 13 and we would miss him, but im suffering from depression and cant see a way of ridding my house of fleas.
I hope somebody can help me ...please0 -
I always found that a product called 'FrontLine' was very effective, you can buy it as something you squeeze onto the back of the dogs neck, or a spray.
It costs £12-£18 for the squeeze pack ( depending on the size of the dog) or about £25 for the spray.
I wouldn't bother spraying the house since the natural life cycle of the flea is to hatch and then get onto your dog where it will be killed anyway.
Try and make your house warm and increase the humidity to encourage the fleas to hatch faster.
I'm not sure but frontline may be prescription only so you will have to go see the vet.0 -

Fleas don't actually live on animals, they just jump on for a feed and jump off again so are actually living in your house, therefore you do need to spray your house to get rid of them!
Jasper: - Vetkem Acclaim is one of the best housesprays as it only needs to be used once a year to keep fleas at bay in the home. Not sure about using in pregnancy though, would be best to ask a vet's advice about that.
Would it be possible for her to spend the night away from the house whilst it's treated? Or failing that, go out for the day and spray the house in the morning, leaving all windows open for ventilation, and her return in the evening?
You need to buy Frontline for your dog which is widely available online and you don't need a prescription from the vet for the spot-on stuff. Have a look at the sticky thread at the top of the forum for reputable online pharmacies.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Our vet suggested the injection, lasts three months and makes the fleas sterile, but not sure (I can't remember if he said) whether it actually kills the fleas and prevents others jumping on the cat...
My sister uses Spot On and my mother uses Frontline and both like what they use - what do you use and feel is best?0 -
Frontline Combo - your vet will be able to supply it. It's a spot on treatment so easy to use and it will break the life cycle of the fleas as well as killing adults.0

I've found ordinary Frontline more effective than Frontline Combo.0

Can you get Frontline from the shops or just from the vet?0

Hi SkintMonkey,
Frontline spot-on can be bought on the internet, much cheaper than at the vets. Frontline Combo is by prescription only.

I use Advocate on both my cat and dog as it is not just for fleas, but worms them as well. Seems to be working as they both are okay.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010
