I just wanted to add that I've heard cat owners should avoid Bob Martin's flea products. It's one of the biggest commercial flea treatments that you can get in pet shops/Tescos. There are some reviews here, but some of it is disturbing reading; http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/pets-and-animals/bob-martin-flea-products/reviews/0

Have just googled Stronghold - is it prescription only? Have always used Frontline but seems to have become less and less effective. My cat has two ticks on her today so need to start looking for something stronger.0

Regular bathing with fragrance free soap is a good preventative and for kittens under 12 weeks is a recommended treatment. Gets rid of our kittens fleas and as long as you hoover regularly should prevent them returning.0

Hi
Just thought I would add you can now get an on spot worming treatment for cats from your vet called Profender. You put it on the back of the neck like frontline/stronghold.
Here is the list of worms it treats

I have used it on my cats quite successfully - it is so nice not getting bitten and ripped to shreads!!0 -
My mums !!!!!cat is riddled with fleas, not sure where the hell they came ffrom as no one goes in my mums flat. But she cant seem to get rid of them! shes been bathing cat with flea shampoo from pet shop but when she washes cat theres a !!!!! load of blood that washes out with it which doesnt look good.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of them, shes bought the bob martin flea spot on stuff but doesnt seem to be doing much good. poor cat is getting bitten to death and shes a proper fluff ball as well as being black!!!
Any tips muchly and greatly appreciated!!!0 -
The blood that washes out will be flea dirt, when they drink the cats blood, that's what comes out the other end... If the cat will stand to be bathed then I would carry on that and use a fine toothed comb (Nit combs work well) To comb through afterwards, Any live fleas need either submerging in a bowl of water or splitting in half with a nail...
Household flea spray on all soft furnishings and regularly vacuuming should prevent the ones in the carpet re-infesting the cat... Good luck!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Like the previous poster mentioned the cat and the environment would need to be treated simultaneously, there are things called 'flea bombs' that you can get from the likes of Pets at Home stores, they'll basically kill anything alive in a closed in room so all livestock like budgies and fish should be taken out 1st, they are very effective though and the instructions are very clear on the outer packet. For some reason we've never found dog fleas as much of a problem as some of the monsters our moggie used to bring home, are they different varieties I wonder?0

Bob martin, along with most of the stuff you can buy over the counter is a waste of money.
You need to trat not only the cat but the falt at the same time because by now all your soft furnishings and carpets are playing host to the flea eggs and larvae which are just going to keep the cycle going.
Theres a thread already about treatments but basically - frontline/stronghold for your cat and indorex for you flat0 -
Thankyou i will be on the look out for some frontline today and indorex. x0

I know it's more expensive, but I've found that it's the only flea solution that works well and speedily.
I tried Bob Martin first, but nothing seemed to be happening. Then I was recommended Fronline Spot On to get rid of the fleas and went to my vet. They said that Bob Martin isn't a very good product for flea solutions and sold me Frontline. I think for 3 tubes it was £18.00, but it does ticks too (combo pack). Shop around online though, there's loads of cheaper places to buy from!!
Frontline gets rid of fleas for 2 weeks and then continues for a further 4 weeks to prevent them getting them again!
Flea problem is now solved!!0
