As mentioned you will need to get Frontline from the vets for the flea's (some Pets at home do sell it now and it is cheaper, you have to fill in name and address etc when buying) you can also get a product from the vets to kill the fleas in the house, if the cats have got fleas they will also have worms so also as mentioned you will need to get worming tablets from the vets. HTH

    Really? I never knew that!

My Vet (well, my Cat's Vet) gets really irate about these flea products that lull people into a false sense of security. I relied on them for a while when I was very hard up and only found out the hard way when Lita became infested.
Lita is impossible to worm. Takes 3 of us at the Vets to holfd her down as she was feral when I first got her. I've tried powders, hiding it in food and all sorts.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

I use ACCLAIM from the vets. but cheaper on line perhaps.

It's expensive at £15 for a can, but cheaper on line perhaps, but it really does last a whole year and in my house a can does two years with a bit left over so all in all for peace of mind a small price to pay.
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

Boots sell acclaim for just under £13.00 and you can get the boots points too. The acclaim can says there is enough in a 400ml can to do an average 4 bedroom house.

Yes apparently when the cats clean themselves when they have fleas they can get flea eggs and fleas in their tummy and that causes worms

Some really good advice given, especially emptying the hoover bag, each time.

No pets now, but I am allergic to some of the sprays, so I did all the washing , hoover etc etc, but I borrowed a steam cleaner and cleaned everywhere, skirting boards, curtains, and it worked a treat. I love the steam cleaner - and afterwards bought one. Worth a try if you can borrow one.

I have had the same problem with my dog. Have ordered frontline 3 pack for small dog £12.53 and indorex £10.46 free postage and packing from www.vet.co.uk They should arrive tomorrow and I cant wait. I keep scratching and I know most of it is psychological, as I have no new bites. Roll on tomorrow and I can feel clean.

l'm afraid mines not psychological. The little black specks that bite are proof of that- Sigh

Yep - fleas are an intermediate host for worms - consume the flea, consume the tapeworm (i think its tapeworms) .. and that applies to humans too btw!

Pet shop products (excepting frontline) are a waste of money - vets or pestcontroller is the way to cure fleas - expensive initially but in the long run much more cost effective.

Feeding small amounts of garlic will discourage fleas but wont cure an existing problem (better for dogs that, cats might not like garlic).

You need a flea bomb fogger.

Go to pets at home and ask for Srikeback flea fogger, light and it will kill all fleas dead within hours

Sorry but in my experience these aren't anywhere near as effective as one of the household sprays already mentioned i.e. Indorex or Acclaim.

It's about time pet shops were banned from selling flea/worming treatments as they all useless and a complete waste of money. People often complain that products from the vets are expensive but at least these products work!

If everyone one bought these instead of wasting money at the petshop I'm sure they would be come cheaper to buy too! ;)
