    Hello all

My kitty Dylan has scratched a great big wound into the back of his neck. I have to admit it's all my fault as I didn't keep his claws short, though they are pretty damn short now:rotfl:. My question is what can I use to cleanse the wound with, and where can I get it?

    Thanks.

    Snowy

Good Luck Kitty Dylan, I hope you get better soon. People who care about animals have given your tin opener the best advice they can, from living with cats for the last 20 years or so, we know how to care for them, but we are bowing out now, as requested..Get Well soon!!

    Hello

We've had our 2 cats for 8 years and no problems with fleas - we use collars and/or flea drops. However we now have fleas appearing all over the house, its horrible. Have hoovered everywhere throughly, used flea spray for carpets, furnishings etc, washed stuff on hot wash, changed flea collars and keeping cats out of house (apart for feeding them) and they are still about, though less.

I want to wait a few days and respray if necessary. Hubby wants to get Rentokil in. I'm worried about using very toxic treatments and the cost of using a professional firm who won't give a quote upfront.

Anyone know how much Rentokil charge? Is there a cheaper company? Better still any advice how how to rid of them ourselves? Any advice appreciated.

Pop into Boots and buy a tin of Indorex. Used corectly your home will be flea free for a year and a tin, although expensive, will treat a three bedroom house twice (so will do two years)

Try Indorex, RIP Fleas or Acclaim. They should all kill fleas from your house (when used properly) and should all be less than £20
  • Hi All,

Just wanted to ask your opinion before I go to the vets and get charged an absolute fortune for naff all!

We recently put our housecat onto Go-cat biscuits for indoor cats. He was on tins but started going through a phase of being sick after every meal - mainly because he gulped the food down as though it was his last ever meal (he is a rescue cat so we can kind of understand the psychology of that one)

Anyhoo...he's been on the biscuits for 2 weeks now and hasn't been sick :T BUT he won't stop scratching himself. I've checked him for fleas and there isn't a single one on him. My mum suggested that maybe because he's on dry food, he's got dry skin?

Are there any natural remedies or possibly additives I can put in the biscuits to give him more moisturising for his skin?

    Thanks!

It's unlikely that a complete dry food would cause dry skin, but he may be allergic to something in it. Doesn't Go-Cat have a lot of coloured kibble in it? Try him on a different dry food without artificial colouring and see if he improves.

But, don't rule out the possibility of it being due to fleas. One of my cats has a severe flea allergy and one bite can result in a trip to the vets for a steroid injection. He is Frontlined regularly, but comes out in huge itchy welts if bitten.

I third the vote for Indorex, buying flea and worming stuff from the petshop is a waste of money really as to do the job properly you really need veterinary grade stuff.

Indorex also kills dust mites which is an added bonus, I don't think any of the other veterinary ones do. If you can wait a day or so for it then it will be much cheaper from an online pet pharmacy (no prescription required for it), you can also get frontline and drontal (wormer) without a prescription.

Indorex is £9.41 with free delivery from vetuk so probably not much more than you've paid for the inferior pet shop stuff.

  • Thanks for that. He has had fleas in the past...there are absolutely none in the house because it's been fumigated and there were no pets here before we moved in.

Gave him a little bit of tinned food last night and he's not scratched half as much :S
