What decorating scheme do you have in your Living room ??

my living room is mad!!!lol its cream walls brown carpet and covered in Disney stuff....I have 6 shelves of Jim Shore disney traditons (got 73 at last count) a 23" Jiminy Cricket, 23" Grumpy and a 23" steamboat Willie!!haha also disney prints etc around the room, got 2 massive ones that were sketched for me in DLP..well I asked nicely for them and got them free!!!hay!!! oh yeah and I have another 23" mickey on my fireplace!!haha...kitchen is the same big disney statues (Stitch, donald, scrooge Mcduck and pluto)...same with the kitchen and hall....


I like being different!!!!!!lol

can I just add that I have another smaller living room through the back and its normal, light brown walls, brown wood (EFFECT haha)..flooring, 2 brown sofas and light brown curtains..I'm not totally crazy!!! Just slightly!!!lol

Hi well haven't read all the replies but the first one i read about white rooms is what i was going to put! We have a new build and was painted in magnolia when we moved in, although it is lovely and new/modern looking i got bored of it and over time thought it looked a tad dingy so have gradually done the rest of the house white (cotton white from B&Q)..the kitchen, both bathrooms and our room have been done and the halls and dd's room left but have to say it looks so much better and cant wait to get it all done now tbh.

Anyway back to the question in hand! Our lounge is usually chnaged once ayear much to dh's sighs!..when we moved in it was simple with just a bright rug but then we did it the teal and brown..it is now the lime green and brown. The walls are still magnolia so it's just a case of changing the pillows and pictures etc and a whoel new room as we have a brown corner sofa and cream rug so easy to do!

Have fun choosing! i use the online home mag sites for inspiration. x

Did you do this on just one corner of the room (apart from the turquoise one)?

i have one full suede effect brown wall with the turq strip in one corner and nothing in the other,just a full magnolia wall.The other corner is in photo with a brown strip down each side,the fourth corner actually has my stairs coming down into it(open stairs to lounge) and i did a turq corner there too,approx18" on each wall.
Think i get carried away with masking tape:rotfl:...i even found a bluey/grey paint that picked out highlights in my kitchen tiles,and i did a corner in it in my kitchen diner.

My room is very plain - magnolia walls and white ceiling and skirtings. The furmiture is quite neutral too: beech and light oak, including the flooring, and ivory leather sofas. I lashed out on expensive lighting and had wall lights put in with dimmers, which makes all the difference to the mood. I also have coordinating lamps to give pools of light and so I can read easily.

I have two looks for the room which are made by changing the accessories.

For winter, I have burgundy taffeta curtains, an Persian rug, dark cushion covers (browns, reds, gold and tans). The look is quite traditional. I have a small table cover in a red and gold brocade. I also have a winter collection of paintings, mainly of trees and landscapes in browns and rusts. It looks quite cosy and is a good setting for the Christmas decorations.

At Easter, I change it all around. I have mustard yellow chenille curtains, a deep turquoise rug and sand/yellow, and deckchair stripe cushion covers. The summer paintings are seascapes and abstracts, predominantly in yellows, oranges and blues. It's lovely to see the change (though hard work to swap it all over) and it feels very summery.

We used Kevin McCloud's 'Choosing Colour' to give us inspiration. It's a really good book for colour inspiration.

We've got a gentle green, with a slightly darker green pattern for the wallpaper, and painted green above the picture rail. We've gone with an eggshell grey for the woodwork and blue for the furniture.

Personally I hate white walls and 'neutral' colours. Probably comes from living in a flat where EVERYTHING was beige (floor, walls, furniture, tiles, cupboard doors, blinds, worktop etc etc etc). Sooooooo dull.

Wow ...Thankyou for all your posts ....Im getting some great ideas , and the photos are great . Im not sure if I could do a straight line down a wall though with the paint { it would probably be all wobbly if I did it :rotfl:} But it looks fab and I wish I could do mine like that

Im now torn between two differenet designs and colours so I think I wil lpinch some of all your ideas and hopefully find a site you can create colours on walls to see what they look like if anyone knows a site that does this it would be great ?

Im also getting loads of great ideas now of how to have my bedroom from your posts and think there will be no stopping me now ...;) I suppose I could swap cushions / curtains etc around from bedroom to lounge in the future to save money and create different moods in these 2 rooms . So I thought maybe plum accessories in the bedroom for now then bring them downstairs when it gets nearer autum and paint my lounge again then ?? As now you have all given me inspiration Im stuck between colours

Just a warning - if you're thinking of using wallpaper on a wall that is previously plain plastered and emulsioned, check with your landlord first. He might be furious that wallpaper has wrecked a nice plain smooth wall as once it's removed, the plaster is never the same again.

I personally go for very light colours, white or the blush shades of white. They make a room look lighter, brighter and bigger, and enable you a free hand to accessorise with whatever colours you want. It's usually much cheaper and less hassle to change a few coloured cushions, etc. than to have to move furniture around and repaint all the walls.

You could choose some throws in a suitable colour and put them on the sofa, or make a new loose sofa cover...

After reading this i bought some white paint yesterday and painted the hallway last night white..looks so so much better, brighter lighter and cleaner really glad i did it! just have to carry on now up the rest of the hall!
