What decorating scheme do you have in your Living room ??

Hello I am urgently needing ideas on what colour scheme to have in my living room and would love your help and ideas please ? ?
I am curently glossing white radiators , windows etc in my Living Room as I want a nice fresh feel to the room as I have unfortunately 2 huge trees outside my living room window so the lighting in here is very minimum and live in private rented terraced house where I cannot get rid of the trees
At the moment I have painted chocolate brown along my main wall where the fire is and a rail along the room so I have a off cream / brown on the bottom and pale cream on the top . I am really fed up of the colour scheme and I want a nice fresh look before the summer - preferably at low cost .
I have been looking into having my main wall or some of it wallpapered and the rest painted . I quite like the idea of maybe green , but I really have no idea what colours to go with what and what wall to have what etc ???
I have browsed the internet and cannot really find anything so your suggestions I will be very grateful for please as I would like to get it all done within the next 2 weeks preferably ??

Over the years I've discovered that white is best. White everywhere ..... because it's low maintenance. It's cheap, there's no colour matching, colours are never discontinued, you don't have to drive 20 miles to try to get an over-priced tin of the same stuff, less rinsing of brushes as you're only using one colour and only one spare tin of paint ever to be kept in the shed. There's no time spent going round all the shops, choosing a colour, buying match pots, mulling, driving, flicking through brochures. Simply turn up at the nearest place that sells paint and say "Hello ... some tins of white... PLZ THX".
White's also good because you can literally walk once through your house every few months, with one paintbrush and literally touch up here and there on demand...
... but I expect I'm entirely alone in this thinking.0 -
Not at all, I love white. It's so clean and fresh and pretty :jPasturesNew wrote: »... but I expect I'm entirely alone in this thinking.
The livingroom that I'm in at the moment has white walls, and a blue carpet, with blue sofa and white curtains. The other one has white walls and a cream carpet and sofa.0 -

Thankyou, can I just ask ..Do you have a main wall or centre piece to add a bit of colour ? As ive thought about just white also but was debating on having some wallpaper on a wall { not sure which one thow} . As I have a huge mantle piece piece / fire place that I find quite ugly and I think if I had all white walls the fire surrounding would stand out more - Which I really dont like the idea of

Why don't you get the trees pollarded, or ask your landlord to or split the cost?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Hi Keys,
I think whether the colour of walls works can depend on whether the room is north or south facing. Some colours work in a north facing room, others in a south facing. I have a north facing lounge with a huge bay window and high ceilings in a Victorian house. The light is great, but it tends to be a "cold" light.
I couldn't paint my lounge white - it was just too cold because there are huge floor to ceiling windows. I have painted other rooms this colour though.
Although not a "yellow" person, I decided on a golden yellows scheme to warm it up. I used a darker shade under the dado rail, paler shade above and then a much much paler (offwhite) shade on the paintwork (leaving the ceiling white). Although I have a fireplace, I don't have a chimney breast, and I already have dado and picture rails in the room so I didn't have the option of wallpapering the chimney breast or one wall. For some reason, I didn't fancy wallpapering horizontally around the walls, so I stuck with different paint colours.
My furniture is darker oak, with a dark firesurround, chocolate brown sofas and darker coloured stripped floorboards. I also made some curtains for my large bay window.
It is a fairly traditional scheme and didn't cost much as it was all paint and whilst I could have made it more modern as I think the room could take it, it is nice and cosy. Even though I made the curtains myself, the major cost was the curtain fabric which was nearly £500 (the windows are 15 foot by 9 foot!).
I am just about to start looking at decorating my dining room, which has a chimney breast, and as its such as huge room, I think it can take more colour. It is south facing. I fancy some wallpaper on the chimney breast and paint in the rest of the room. I am glad its back in vogue as I do like it. I am a sucker for Designer Guild wallpaper! Therefore cheaper to just do the chimney breast or one wall in my book! Homes and Gardens featured a lovely wallpaper but it is £40 a roll and I would need at least two to do the chimney breast! So I need to save up.

I don't like all white - too cold. I have slightly textured wallpaper on the walls, painted pale cream. The texture adds a little interest but is not intrusive. Ceiling is matt white. Soft furnishings are in soft orangey-browns.
I am not convinced about the 'feature wall' idea that is popular at the moment.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Hi there I have Dulux Calico on walls on top and below dado and Jeff banks chocolate paint on chimney breast as a feature wall0

I have a mulberry purple on my chimmney walls and oyster on the other walls. Dark oak floors and blinds and black sofa and coffee table. With Purple Voile curtains.
Not to everyones taste but I love it x
