  • I have waited 6 hours to go to the loo once because I was too scared to go at work, one of those with cubicles. The fact that people might hear doesn't bother me, putting loo paper in the toilet bowl solves that...but the tell-tale smell. I once went in a public loo when I couldn't wait and the woman in the cubicle next to me started spraying deodorant and doing exaggerated coughing...I couldn't get out of there quick enough!
All the coffee in Columbia won't make me a morning person... :D:p

Not sure if it's been asked on here, but does holding it in actually cause any long term damage? I know it's uncomfortable, but is that pain telling you to go for a reason?
  • i'm the same, i'd rather wait till home if at all possible, there's nothing more embarassing than someone hearing you or smelling your poo, or even worse, the loo getting blocked which devastatingly has happened to me when i was pregnant and had no option. i had to silently endure people commenting on the blockedness of the loo and pretending i didnt know whodunnit when clearly it was down to bad plumbing as my loo at home doesnt get blocked in that way. really, really embarassing.

id love there to be sounds that cover it and fresh air as has been suggested or some kind of spray to cover the smell.

i sufffer ibs and yes im absolutely positive that not being able to go at work has contributed to this but people do make strong comments about bad smells, i dont like smelling that of others' either so i suppose until loos are improved then the problem will continue.

when i was pregnant i ended up carrying perfume in my bag to mask the smell and loo roll down the loo to mask the plop cos when i had to go i had to go. thats not very mse either!

I'm a midwife, so poo is part and parcel of my everyday working life. Pooing is a physiological part of childbirth, yet I find that nearly every woman I look after is terrified of this happening. So far to say that psychologically it can stop women getting into the whole birthing process and it can take a lot of coaxing and encouragement to get a woman to "let go", go with her body and allow her bowels to open if so be it.

I was brought up in a lovely family however from an early age was reminded that passing wind in public was frowned upon. I'm sure as a whole, girls are indocrinated with the idea of what is "ladylike" and what is acceptable behaviour in public and sadly pooing is not an accepted practice.
  • way to go Martin your so right this is the same at my work place no woman likes to go in and do a poo as when you go in and it smells everyone thinks its you and the problem is women like to talk and gossip and spread nasty rumours in my work place the women will go to other far away toilets to do a poo or hold it until they get out of work and those that do do it make a smell and run out fast leaving everyone to think its the next poor person to go in and they're also very messy too eugh..!!! So then we have no choice but to wait till we get home either that or be ridiculed at work for something you did or didn't do.
