I know Owlet isn't it mad how expensive some kindle books are? I only buy kindle books (unless it's a brand new release that I can't wait for) when it goes to at least under £5. I track them on my wishlist though and try and grab them when they're 99p or £1.99 but so often the popular ones don't get reduced0

Finished Swallows and Amazons today. It took me back to my childhood and I am itching to watch the film again, if I can find it.Now Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j0

I finished the City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin on Sunday.
Not sure how to feel, was a bit of an anticlimax after the last two books in the trilogy, especially considering I'd been waiting for it for so long. Hmm
Started The Enchanted by Rene Denfield, a very short one of 200-odd pages so shouldn't take me long at all. An actual physical book for once which makes a change!0 -
I finished the Barbara Pym Jane and Prudence which I really enjoyed.
Went on to To Davy Jones Below by Carola Dunn which someone passed on to me. Actually she gave me 4 by her and as I enjoyed this one I'll certainly be reading the others at some point. Great literature it certainly isn't but a fun and engrossing story nonetheless. Just the ticket as my life's been so full of distractions recently that it's been impossible to immerse myself in anything heavy. This book had me guessing right to the end:T. The upper crust female sleuth is pretty annoying in many ways but great fun and quite engaging. I like crime/mystery novels set in the 20s (even though the author is modern in this case).
Have just started Lynda La Plante's Wrongful Death. A nice chunky 500 pages to get my teeth into:j. I hope I'll manage some interruption-free time to enjoy it.
**Quick update on the Lynda La Plante book. Have seen her stuff on TV but never read anything of hers until now. It's a cracking read, very unputdownable with 2 feisty women as main characters. Was reading last night until long past my normal bedtime.0 -

I finished Nightwood this morning! I will have a look at my 'to read' pile tonight and get started on another book.0

I finished - The Enchanted by Rene Denfield. A short one about a prison in America and focusing on Death Row - was a really good book, more in the magical realism genre but a really good read, made me think!
Now started The Ocean At The End Of The Lane by Neil Gaiman. I've read one of his books before (Stardust), and I didn't like it that much, I'm not all that keen on books which are heavily focused on faeries. However this one seems to be based more in reality than Stardust, with just a magical twist, which is much more appealing to me.0 -
I finished The Ocean At The End of The Lane by Neil Gaiman - such a lovely, bittersweet book that mixes magical realism with the theme of childhood. I would highly recommend it and it's only a short one.
I'm now reading Stephen King's Misery - I've not read loads by him but am trying to make more of an effort because so many of his stories are classics which have been sampled and adapted in other ways. Really enjoying Misery so far.
Just wondered, has anyone had any experience with Kindle Unlimited? I had the 30 day trial a year or two ago and at the time there weren't that many books available. But there seems to be a lot more on there now. However, it's £7.99 a month, so not sure how worthwhile that is if the books I want still are not available. If anyone has it, or has had it, did you manage to make much use of it?0 -

I don't think it's worth £ 7.99 a month considering the choices I've seen. It's just a quite expensive library membership....Did you try the link to the free books for kindle? I browse the pages every month or so and always find something. And if you are a prime member you get 1 book free from a selection of pre-publication titles, the offer is called Kindle first.First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -

Yeah thanks that's why I asked, if it was £3.99 I could maybe consider it but £7.99 no thanks....I'm not a prime member and I can't see myself doing it any time soon....There are certain authors that I like (Hugh Howey being one) that has made a point of joining the scheme, but a lot of the books I want aren't included. Although the Harry Potter series is strangely! Just wondered if anyone had it and found it useful.
Although perhaps asking on MSE I won't get many replies on that as everyone will think it's poor value0
