Hello, I finished 22) The Last Coyote by Michael Connelly - enjoyed it so much that I'm straight on to the next one I have in the series, Trunk Music. The storyline kept me gripped right up to the final pages and I'm finally starting to warm to the main character!MFW 2017 #123 2018: £1,852.64/£39,200 (4.7%)0

Since last update I've read two lovely books. I've a few things going on at the moment and haven't the time to get lost in anything too heavy-going, so these 2 from the library van have been a godsend.
The first was A Patchwork Planet by Anne Tyler. I read a few by her a few years ago but somehow got sidetracked onto other writers and genres. So glad to rediscover her again. A very underrated author in my opinion. Some people say not much happens in her books which is basically true but the way she makes us care about the lives of her characters, often slightly off-kilter, is brilliant.
The other one was One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern. It's the first I've read by her and I loved it. A bit sentimental in places and the loose ends got tied up a bit too quickly and easily at the end (I wanted more) but it suited my current mood exactly. I'll definitely be looking out for more by her.
A friend has passed on A Whiff of Scandal by Carole Matthews. Never read any of hers and I've had a quick skim of the first few pages but I'm not sure I'm interested enough to read it. Are there any Carole Matthews fans on here who really rate her?
Feel at a loose end now I've finished the two I've just mentioned. Can't think what to get started on next. Will probably be Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin. Started this about 10 years ago and had to leave it (although I was loving it) and never got to pick it up again:o. Just rediscovered it with my bookmark still in it but think I'll start from the beginning again. A nice, light read with quirky characters guaranteed:j0 -

Am now reading an Austrian crime story, very fast paced and funny . Wolf Haas is the author, some of his have been translated.First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -

Finished Those who Serve by Marcia Willett - her first novel - about navel wives, love affairs and the impact of service life on families.
I've read this for a third time a real favourite.... Have decided to start hers from the beginning and work through. As a break from book club book Dickens Our Mutual Friend. As a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or

I now have the library book in my possession so have started to read that one, however it's going slowly at the moment, as I'm only reading it on the bus, about 20 minutes each way rather than also on my lunch break and before bedtime.
I have also joined a reading group through church, which isn't going to prescribe books for us to read - thankfully, but it'll be another opportunity to chat about books!0 -
Your reading group sounds great:T. It's a pity there are no reading groups of any kind anywhere near where I live out in the sticks:eek:
I'd hate to have to slog through something really boring:eek:, Our Mutual Friend by Dickens for example that someone mentioned recently as their latest book club choice.0
