Started to read - the Believers - but couldn't get into it. Read first thirty pages then decided to stop. Will be passing it into the charity shop.

  • Gem-gem, I hate it when that happens:(but fortunately it doesn't very often.

Sometimes if it's a book that has good reviews I tend to think there's something wrong with me for not getting along with it:o. Maybe I'm just not in the mood or have too many other distractions to be able to give it my full attention.

I'll usually leave it, read a few other books, and eventually come back to it a few months down the line. If I still can't get into it or find I just don't like it I'll move it on then.

So many great books out there still to be read, no point wasting precious time on something that gives no joy, is a chore to read and frustrates:eek:

Finished The Runeovex Secret. It was quite short compared to other Kindle books I read. Read well and I'll be keeping an eye out for his other books when they are offered free on Kindle.

Also finished What Katy Did. Was quite good in the end.

Kindle book is now How to Kill a Mockingbird which was free on the Kindle store. I've seen the film recently so it's good to have the book to read. The film is a very good representation of the book so far.

Actual book is The Wind in the Willows, from my classic adventures series. Going well so far.

    Hello all

I can't quite believe that I have finished three books!

What Anglican's believe by Samuel Wells

And then I have finished the last two in the Jenny Pitman novels - the vendetta and the inheritance

Last one was abit of a let down but I really enjoyed immersing myself in the racing world

Now The Diplomats Wife by Pam Jenoff

  • Eventually finished Thomas Hardy's A Pair of Blue Eyes. Took ages, not because I wasn't enjoying it, I loved it, but have had too many interruptions to concentrate on any sort of reading. I had to keep backtracking because I'd had to set it aside for long periods:(. Plus, the print was soooo darn small it was a bit of a trial to read.

Am still set on reading my way through absolutely everything TH wrote but must make sure the print is a bit bigger next time:rotfl:. Have just found The Trumpet Major by him (at a library sale for 20p and in great condition:j) which was one of our 'A' Level texts. Loved it then, let's hope I'm not disappointed after all these years;)

    Hi everyone :hello:

Will catch up on the thread properly later but hope you're all well and enjoying your books!

RL and holidays have prevented me from posting, but I have been reading (albeit slowly!). I read The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes, which was a 20p ex-library find and fine for a light read.

I FINALLY finished Exit Music by Ian Rankin, which was loaned by my FIL, and have vowed not to read any more of the Rebus novels now - it got better towards the end but I didn't get much pleasure from reading it and as a result I had to force myself to read it.

I read lots of Kindle books whilst on holiday, none of real note, but have decided to focus on paperbacks now where possible in the interests of decluttering - so I'm not counting Kindle novels in my target of 26 for the year.

Now reading Bad Luck and Trouble by Lee Child and enjoying it so far.

Ooh - need to say, I finished this! :T

This book is visceral and spooky - Kirby Mazrachi is a girl who should be dead. A couple of years after she was viciously attacked by a limping man while out walking her dog, she gets a placement on a local newspaper working with Dan Velasquez - a sportswriter who has moved away from crime stories, but who had written about her attack. Kirby's attacker had seemed to melt into thin air and the police had no leads, so Kirby wants to use her placement to find similar cases. The thing is, similar crimes seem to be cropping up decades back.

We also see from the killer's point of view, a vagrant from the Great Depression and his wonder at a mysterious house - dilapidated from the outside, plush when he enters - that is filled with vibrating objects and glowing names that are always there, even when he hasn't written them yet. He has to close the loop, but what does that mean?

    Does that intrigue you?

Now on The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey, and halfway through. A zombie book? Yes, but not in the way you might be thinking. It's up for the Clarke Awards, and I'd say it deserves to be there, from what I've read so far.

I LOVED the Shining Girls!! It was hard to explain to people what it was about without sounding like a complete nut job though...

It's about this man that can time travel and kill young girls and people just look at you like :o
