Yes! I was going to say that and you beat me to it, I love it especially if you've been on holiday with a book and find a boarding card or a map or something in a book, to remind you of a lovely holiday :)
And you beat me to that one:rotfl:Thought about it earlier and forgot to post it.... I found a couple of books I had when I lived in France some years back, they had lots of tickets, maps, etc in them - wonderful memories:)

The most expensive book I've ever bought was a present for OH for a special birthday. An antique maritime book (he loves boats) which he treasures - I hate to think how much it was but he loves it, so it was worth it:)

I don't find I need a dictionary often, but I do usually wish I had an atlas so I could look up where places are, especially in American books.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Ooohh think I need to join this thread...although you guys make my 20 or so unread books sound pitiful. I very rarely get rid of books, though I do buy charity shop or cheap bookshop ones instead of magazines for train journeys and I sometimes get rid of these. At the moment our local charity shop has some very good paperbacks dirt cheap so I'm having to avoid there. I mostly buy reduced books, but as I lov the look of I well stocked bookcase I do try to get hardbacks and keep toying with the thought of joining the folio society but I wouldn't want to read those books for fear of making them tatty so defeats the point of buying them.

Oh and anyone i still reading this post I currently have The Lady in the Tower by Alison Weir, American Future a History by Simon Schama and Lost Voices of the Royal Navy on the go and I've misplaced all my bookmarks!

Ah, I sympathise, there is nothing worse than forgetting your book. I am very very fortunate to have a (quite old now) Palm PDA, with over 200 books on it, so I am never without a good read. It also plays audio books, so gets a lot of use to and from work. I am dreading the day that it packs up as an equivalent model is way out of my budget.

The most expensive book I have bought was one of my Laurel and Hardy books ( I have a lot !!). It was about £30. I would never normally spend that kind of money on a book, but this one was special. I usually walk away from a hardback that is more than £1 at a boot sale !

Well on the upside, I must have read a good 20 or so pages on my lunchbreak. :)

I'm really enjoying The Pilot's Wife, I should finish it this afternoon, I stayed up till after 1am reading it, oops!
    .

Did you manage to finish it? I thought the end was pretty crazy and not at all in keeping with the rest of the book - it was like someone came into the room with a gun and said 'you aren't leaving till you write an end for this book and I don't care how c**p it is' :) and I do like Anita Shreve usually. Really enjoyed the latest one (something to do with altitude).

Currently reading James Herriot's All Things Bright and Beautiful - can you tell I'm stressed...total comfort reading

And John Steinbeck's A Russian Journal courtesy of DH for valentines day :) which is great - I read Travels with Charlie last year - another inspired gift from him - and loved it.
  • Hello
Just been reading through this thread - found it in a link from another thread. I love books and bought loads for my children when they were young but eventually couldn't take the heartbreak of parting with them when they grew out of them. Many got passed to cousins but many were thrown as they were worse for wear (much loved.) Any ways we eventually got sorted and I asked for no more books to be bought, only to be borrowed from the library. I am a member of a book club and everyone buys the books except me, I always manage to find a copy to loan. I use the online ordering service, like amazon but free. Order the book, wait for notification it has arrived and pick it up from local branch then return once read. Have hours of pleasure for no money. Support your local library or it may disappear. Now that would be a tradegy.

  • Hello again

Our last two reads were House at Riverton and Two Caravans I enjoyed both of these.

Latest read was The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. I loved this book, can't recomend it highly enough.

I like Jodi Picoult, enjoyed the book thief. I haven't heard of The Pilots Wife I've seen mentioned on here so will look it up on the library site tomorrow.
