I didn't pay for it myself, it was a graduation present, but it was this:

Damien Hirst: I Want To Spend The Rest Of My Life Everywhere, With Everyone, One To One, Always, Forever, Now

It was £60 at the time (1998), I did an Art History degree and my dissertation was on the Young British Artists. I still have the book, would never sell it as it's beautiful and reminds me of that whole time of my life.

A friend of mine did once find £20 in a book in a charity shop - she feels bad to this day that she bought it and kept the £20 instead of donating it. I tell her, at least she bought the book and didn't just take the money!

I've never been lucky enough to find money, but I did once buy a book I didn't want because I liked the bookmark that had been left in it :)
I love finding old bus tickets, receipts etc on long-abandoned books

Yes! I was going to say that and you beat me to it, I love it especially if you've been on holiday with a book and find a boarding card or a map or something in a book, to remind you of a lovely holiday :)

I think it's expensive if I ever pay full price for a book! The most I've spent is £60 on a Wainwright box set of all his walks in the fells, BUT it was entirely paid for using Amazon vouchers I earned from Dooyoo reviews :A

Just a little slip up for me - bought a book yesterday (just the one and it was to raise funds for Macmillan Nurses - so a great cause, so hoping Im excused this little lapse).

Currently reading Jodi Picoults "Picture Perfect", with 2 more library books pending before I can tackle my own book mountain.

Hope everyones having a good day.

PS I struggled to find you yesterday too and then thought Id search afresh today - and here you are, lol.

I'm really enjoying The Pilot's Wife, I should finish it this afternoon, I stayed up till after 1am reading it, oops!

I bought a hardback copy of The Lord of the Rings for (I think) £40, half of it was vouchers though. It's been my favourite book since I was 10 and I kept wearing out paperbacks!

And in Hay on Wye I got a folio society copy of Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Gibbons for £35, in a shop over the road it was £90! I'm really into medieval history so I love having that.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • I loved Fortune's Rocks, that's Anite Shreve isn't it? Can't really remember The Pilot's Wife even though I know I've read it :o

Ah, I sympathise, there is nothing worse than forgetting your book. I am very very fortunate to have a (quite old now) Palm PDA, with over 200 books on it, so I am never without a good read. It also plays audio books, so gets a lot of use to and from work. I am dreading the day that it packs up as an equivalent model is way out of my budget.

The most expensive book I have bought was one of my Laurel and Hardy books ( I have a lot !!). It was about £30. I would never normally spend that kind of money on a book, but this one was special. I usually walk away from a hardback that is more than £1 at a boot sale !
