Oh and on Jodie Picoult I thought My Sister's Keeper was a really good read, also Plain Truth and The Pact. But they do all start to blend together after a while, it's definitely worth spreading reading them over time. I think she's a pretty good storyteller actually and wish she'd write something that wasn't just a variation on a theme...
Talking of which is anyone a Stephen King fan - I hesitate to ask because I do think there's a bit of a snobbery around him but he is also one of my total comfort reads...0 -

I had no idea Jodi P had written so much! I loved My Sister's Keeper and fancy Handle with Care from what I've read about it, been trying to get a copy on RiSi ... ditto Lord of the Flies!
Just won one of the Living in Australia books on the prize draw on heretotally relevant as we are genuinely looking at doing it in the next couple of years, and I'd class it as a reference book so it doesn't add to my total

they are knitted breasts that are used by midwives and health visitors as a teaching aid for breastfeeding. I have heard that they can also be used as prosthetics after mastectomies if ladies dont like the feel of the plastic type. i knit them for a group called loving hands who then distribute them where needed, the 2 i knitted over the weekned are definately for the breast feeding lessons as they are very brightly coloured i used a marl rainbow wool for the breast and bright pink for the nipple so they are a bit loud i usually try and do them in a range of flesh colours but ive run out of skin tone wool at the mo
I wasnt really sure what to list them as on my sig as everyone in the knit a square thread knows what they are but on the boards people might not have heard of wooly boobs beforeSPC~12 ot 124

Hi everyone, first time I have spotted this thread. I have a bookshelf full of un-read books yet keep finding myself in charity shops looking at the books section and going 'ooh its only £1.50, go on then'
I'm a Jodi P fan as well, I just finished Mercy last night. I found it difficult to get into but I'm glad I persevered with it. Nineteen Minutes and Plain Truth are my favourites of hers, I have Handle With Care in my unread pile along with about 20 others which I seem to have picked up here and there.
I'm reading Dangerous Lady by Martina Cole at the mo (which I picked up for £1 in a second hand bookshop last month). It's not the kind of thing I usually read at all, bit gritty but so far so good.
I think I have about 20 unread books that I would like to get through....eventually. I'm a hoarder I must admit, I have hundreds of books I have read and loved, and just can't bear to give them to charity shops etc. Maybe one day I will get brave and do it.

Hear hear! I recently rediscovered the joys of my local library - its fantastic! I love the online ordering service - plus if you dont like a book then you dont have the guilt about spending money on somethng that doesnt get read.
I really enjoyed House at Riverton - have just requested The Guernsey Literary one on the aforementioned library ordering service! Just finished My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult which I enjoyed. Can anyone recommend any others by her? Just started Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani - I love her books, have read them all!
I had a small room in my last house which I converted into a "library" with custom made shelves and everything. When I got divorced, the house had to be sold and the first thing the new owners did was rip out my reading room. I miss that room more than my ex :rotfl:One day I'll have that dream library you describe - wonderful!
Re Jodi Picould - I enjoyed My Sisters Keeper and Vanishing Acts.
I used to have books everywhere but when we had the downstairs decorated everything got put into boxes and I won't unpack them. I'm cxxp at housework (too busy reading) and am trying to keep everything as minimal as possible. If I had a large house with lots of space I would definately have a library. Until then I will continue to use the public library and try to get through the many books in the bedrooms that need to be read and passed on. I have begged family not to buy any more books and they are getting good at using the library.WL 11 st 5lb as at 050109. 160209 11st 2lb

Hi Ames, did you finish it, what did you think? I got a copy from the library the afternoon. I have read and enjoyed Eden Close by the same Author. Will start Pilot's Wife later this evening.WL 11 st 5lb as at 050109. 160209 11st 2lb

I got 'The Money Diet' from the library and am a few pages in so far. I often end up doing this with two books (especially on fiction and one non-fiction). It often galvanises me into finishing the first book more quickly than I otherwise might have done.
I'd best get on it, then! Please call me 'Pickle'

I did enjoy The Pilot's Wife, although I thought the ending was rushed. I think it was supposed to be one of those out of nowhere endings that you don't see coming, but it came across as 'oh crap it needs finishing, how can I do it quickly and avoid having to write another hundred pages' ones. I'd read more by her, if I found them cheap and had got through my 'to be read' bookcases.
I've been to one of my book clubs tonight, luckily didn't get any recommendations!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
