  • i havnet read the lady of the rivers yet i think the books can stand alone and still make sense.
i read the white queen and the red queen one after the other which if im honest got a little confusing as they are the same story from two different (opposing) womens perspectives. i tended to still be holding the bias and bad feeling created by the first book towards one of the characters while reading the second which was a little unfair on her.
ive just added a few of lst years purchases i found upstairs to good reads, my list is getting longer

  • forgive me, threaders, for i have sinned and purchased 3 more books from my local Oxfam:

Philippa Gregory - The White Queen (pb) £1.29
Penelope Fitzgerald - Offshore (pb) £1.49
Daphne Du Maurier - The House on the Strand (pb) £1.59

so that's 4 in a week. i am bad. and i was doing so well too

however it was quite fortuitous finding The White Queen after discussing it earlier. i decided that £1.29 was an amount i was willing to sacrifice to have the whole set ready in case i liked them.

thanks for the heads-up about the White/Red Queen issue mrs-moneypenny! maybe i'll read the first two and leave a gap before carrying on then.

  • re: cousin's war series - i think the order that she wrote the books is different to the chronology? on goodreads the books are listed in the order she wrote them i think, which is why they're numbered differently. she readily admits that she bounces back and forth when writing a series and i was really after reading them in chronological order as much as i can. although now i'm confusing myself....:rotfl:

    anyway, i have just finished...

#6 Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins 5/5

    phew...what a ride..what a trilogy!

    and onto book 7!

although i don't know what i'm going to pick yet, and it's my DH's birthday today and i'm taking him to try on motorcycle jackets, so i'll peruse the shelves later.

    Hi all

I really think I need to join in with this. I am an avid reader and got a kindle for my birthday 18 months ago - well I am now worse than ever as I see a good buy on the kindle store and as I don't need to consider putting it on a bookshelf I buy it. Needless to say I now have a tonne (metaphorically) of books to read. Discipline needed I should say.

Will start with my Dan Brown ones I think - have about 5 of those so that's my first challenge.
  • Read another book in the past day :) I often take a little quick read in the bath when I need a good long soak and then to get it out of the way I finished The White Horse of Zennor on the bus today. Another Michael Morpurgo book. I think he's a great children't author and he knows just how to affect my emotions!!

  • Hi everyone, have just finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and loved it, have just started the 2nd one in the trilogy.
Can anyone recommend me something to read after I've finished these? - I like psychological thrillers mainly, quite dark things and nothing too simplistic.
I just hate it when I've finished a good book and haven't another one waiting, I'm tring to read slowly!

This is the best idea ever! I read a fair bit and very fast, but I buy books at a much faster rate! Right, I have decided that I will not be buying anymore books until I have started to get through the ones I've already bought and not read (a bookshelf full!) The only exception I can think though is the Sookie Stackhouse series - I have the first 10, and I'm on 8, so I'll need to buy the follow ups as I'm hooked on them!
