finished my book last night, it was rather ironic sitting by candlelght reading a book about Elizabeth I as we had a 3 hour power cut.,
enjoyed it as Philippa Gregory is one of my favourite authors and i like reading books about the tudors. I wont be letting it go as its a hard back and i will reread it in the future.
you know how you imagine the characters as real people or picture actresses/actors that would play them, while reading this i had Queenie from blackadder firmily stuck in my mind as she came across as a quite spoilt manipulative person who thrived on compliments but sulked if she didnt get her own way.
not sure where to go next some brilliant suggestions on here that i already own. was thinking of Elizabeth and Leicester but its the same subject matter as the virgin's lover so i think i need to read something else inbetween so i dont merge the 2 books and confuse the characters in my mind (not difficult:rotfl:)
also thinking of the glass painters daughter or an anita shrieve one (i have several;))SPC~12 ot 124

Made the mistake of going to the library van yesterday, so brought 6 books in, but at least they didn't cost anything.
Mrs Moneypenny, one of the books was 'The Other Queen' by Philipps Gregory about Mary Queen of Scots. I have read all her books, and think I will keep the Tudor series. Started this last night, but have also got the Book Thief to read, so will probably start both - don't know why I can't just read one book at a timeYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

have you read her non historical stuff as well- i loved the little house about the young woman with the overpowering mil
ive got the other queen, havent read it yet:o i loved the book thief my DD brought it for me i lent it to 5 people and they all loved it my Fil said it was one of the best books he'd ever read and he devours books. i think it took some getting into at the beginning but its well worth it and i promise you wont be able to put it down. i wont say anything about the plot as i dont want to spoil it for you BUT you will know by the blurb its not going to be a happy all the way book, near the end i was teetering between wanting to throw it across the room and needing to know how it all finished. its a book im really glad i read.SPC~12 ot 124

Hi everyone,
I love reading, but I think my problem may be outside the scale of this challenge. I have at least 300 unread books in boxes in the shed, I don't actually know how many as I haven't been out in a while as I keep 30 books or so on my shelf inside. We're buying a house in a few months hopefully, and I don't even know where the 3000 or so books we have are going to go!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
Debt September 20th 2022 £2991.68- 96.92% paid off0 -
Dinah93 welcome to the challenge ive got bookcass scattered all over the house - there is at least one in every room ive only counted the ones in the spare room that are all mine and i have 131 unread books to get through (in that room alone!)SPC~12 ot 124

Well I was telling my friend about my book challenge last night and she said "Oh, I've still got loads of your books that you lent me when I was in hiospital having the baby" (a year and a half ago!) - so my numbers are slightly conservative, I think I gave her about ten to choose from, but I'll have read them all, I'm funny about giving people books before I've read them
SS, as regards autobiographies, I didn't even enjoy Bill Bryson's one and I love love love all of his other books. Can't see OH getting into books like yours did unfortnately, he has this theory that he was never read bedtime stories and never read for pleasure as a child, so he doesn't like it now, which I think might have something to it - I was always reading as a kid. What do others think?
Congrats Pickle on getting in the email! :TWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

ive lost 2 of mine and its driving me crazy thinking where they could have gone. 1 is the first in a set of 2 and the other is the middle from a trilogy. they've been missing 3 or 4 months that i know to
ive just spent 1/2 hour taking all the books down (they are triple deep on deep shelves) ive put the ones ive read at the back and put the other in rough genre/author order so i can work through themSPC~12 ot 124

What a fantastic thread! I am an avid reader with a fair few unread, and so many bookcases we've named our second public room The Library. Well, my teenagers did, and it stuck.
But I've a confession to make that may have me shunned in this bibliophile thread.
During the really cold weather in January, we ran out of coal for our multi-fuel stove, and we had a couple of boxes of books (really trashy ones in the main) that we had put aside for charity shops. That in itself had been a difficult experience, as both DH and myself do like to have shelves of books around, as well as to be always reading. But we had got to the stage of realising that to get the other half of the collection out of boxes, we'd have to ditch some.
Then we heard on the news about little old ladies buying cheap books in charity shops to burn on the fire.
So we did. I can tell you that paperbacks burn great, hardbacks aren't worth the effort. To get the fire going, fan the pages out a bit before you put the book on. For a slower burn, put it on straight from the shelf.
I know it sounds like something from 1940s Germany (just read The Book Thief - recommended). And it did feel almost like a political act. But we live in a remote area and couldn't find coal within 10 miles....
I'll get my coat.....0
