  • I am really enjoying it :D

Although I think this thread for me is more of a confessional or actually a place where I see what other people are reading and I think "oh I will have to get that" and I won't go out and buy them brand new, I will store the names and if I see them in the charity shop or jumble sale, I can't help it - this thread effectively leads me astray :o

Bought a Dean Koontz from the charity shop yesterday for £1.25 :o

Which Dean Koontz book did you get? - I've read a couple of his and really enjoyed them - I also have about 6 others of his to read!

I do agree that the thread leads me astray as well as its made me want to read books other people have mentioned, which I'd never heard of before! And it hasn't stopped me looking in bookshops and charity shops! Having said that I am making a concious effort to read all the ones I already have, which is an improvement - So half effective for me!! :rotfl:

If I had to pick one author who I could only ever read again, it would probably be him (fictional author). I have read nearly all of his books, the recent purchase was What the Night Knows. I think it is one of this years books. I found my love for him when I read my first book of his when I was about 20. It was called Hideaway and was later made into a really bad film with Jeff Goldblum. Another one of his that I liked was Dark Rivers of the Heart (another older one). One Doorway Away From Heaven was great and I particularly like Watchers. It is really sad but I quite like a few of his books as being a "dog" person, the odd dog turns up in the stories. Watchers particularly is about a golden retriever I think, that is far too intelligent for its own good :o

Have just finished reading this morning Daddy's Little Girl by Mary Higgins Clark. It's the first one of her books I've read and would really like to read some more of hers once I've gotton through some more of my to be reads. This one was definitely the sort of book I like to read and hope her others are like it.

Am now re-reading Stolen Angels by Shaun Hutson as I can't remember if I liked it enough to keep it or get rid of it.

  • I really think I should join this thread as I too have a mountain of books to read and yet still find myself buying more! My shelves are groaning under the weight of all of the books I have yet to read and seldom does a week pass without more being added.

I am currently reading The Novel in the Viola and although it started off well I am feeling that it is losing its pace a bit and is a bit unrealistic. Has anyone else read it? I am at that point of trying to decide if it is worth persevering or just moving onto another book.

I am intrigued at the new kind*e and have been ever so slightly tempted to order it as an early xmas present for myself BUT I have books all over the house and since its taken me nearly a month or more to read about 250 pages of the first Jo Nesbo book (and I have the rest stacked up ready to read), I don't think I have a need for it anytime soon. I have to say I am still not convinced and think my money would be better spent on a bookshelf :rotfl:
  • I love Literary Novels, I could raid the Prize Winners and Shortlist Lists but my weakness is the rare scarce academic text going at a dirt cheap price.
    Therein is my literary pleasure.
NB Academic Publishers are tight fisted businesses, Bargains therefore are to be pounced upon.
Academic Book Bargains = very MSE!:money::D:eek::beer:

  • I question my ability to resist were Amazon to offer a Literary Novel at 99p!! aggh. All the same slowing the process, becoming more content with what I have and using what I own, add in raiding Library, Book Swap sites etc for gems, then this Challenge is a good thing.

  • I know the feeling about having a mountain of books and buying more. There is an Essay I read' Walter Benjamin 'Unpacking my Library' that pours scorn on being too economical spending wise, because it stops one from really creating a Library, a key asset in any persons life; and a radical contributory factor to activities such as Self Learning (The DIY University the joys of Uni minus the debt), the cultivation of a literary life (helpful for the Reader Writers in us all) and enjoyment away from the tedium of mainstream media. (endless repeats, insulting content, right wing etc). So I think there's a bit of an argument there for Excellent Library Cultivation Skills (shock horror!!!) as well as the just need to pull back the reins in order to appreciate what one's got.
