I'll dig it out and give you the author's name - probably available in the library (before Pickle tells me off for leading you astray:D).

    Who, me?! ;)

I'm in Essex and it doesn;t cost anything to reserve a book if you do it on-line. not sure what it cost if you fill the form in in the library.

Forgot to mention that in the last ten years I've read in excess of 2000 books

Have you read Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell, lilian? I'm really interested in the history of Catalonia and there's a brilliant book on Barcelona I bought before we went there a few years ago. I'll dig it out and give you the author's name - probably available in the library (before Pickle tells me off for leading you astray:D).

Thanks for the updates nicca :D

I have indeed, great book. I've also read Ghosts of Spain, The Basque History of the World, A Load of Old Bull, A Late Dinner... I could go on! I'm currently trying to convince myself I don't need the DVD of Spain...On The Road Again which was a documentary series Gwyneth Paltrow did recently about the food of Spain, I need to go over to the No More DVDs thread again I think!

If you could find out the name of that book that would be lovely :) And yes, I will get it out from the library ;)

I've nearly finished Too Close to Home. I'm really enjoying it but one scene was so awful I nearly threw up...

.... they were eating French toast with maple syrup and icing sugar, eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww!
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • Oh wow - why haven't I seen this thread earlier? I stopped buying books a long time ago but I still have loads and loads of books awaiting reading (probably around 100 if not more).

But do I read those books that are sat on my shelves? NO. I go and reserve books at the library so when I collect them I get a buzz like I've been shopping LOL!!!!

I also spend far too much time sat at the computer when I could be reading.

Finished Too Close To Home, I really liked it, there was a great dry humour there. Now reading The Plantation by Chris Kuzneski, I really love his books, much better than Dan Brown.

  • What a great thread, can I join too?
I keep buying 'nice' books on amazon because they're cheap and vaguely interest me, then I don't read them as I have the attention span of a gnat!

My latest aquisitions are Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain (liked the white cover), Alvin Hall's Save Now Retire Happy, Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer and a Ghandi biography. Totally random!

I did buy a book in a second hand book shop yesterday but more as a collectors item - it's a book about Barcelona written in the 50s and was only £1. I'm very interested in the history of Spain so it'll be interesting to read about Barcelona as a tourist spot while it was still under Franco's regime!
    Oooh, that sounds interesting...

So many more books to add to my list ;) But first I must go to my unread pile and look out Robert Hughes' "Barcelona and Arturo Barea's "The Foraging of a Rebel"!
