Anybody who gets rid of a book they've enjoyed surely has no soul.
True - no soul but also no room!
Actually I do pass on books that I have loved but these day (with the internet and charity shops) it is easy and cheap to buy another copy if the urge to re-read lunges upon me."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Have you read this? Homage to Catalonia. Very good!
I have indeed - have a very old, held together by yellowing sellotape copy. It's one I won't get rid of! Also have a look for "The Virgin of the Railway and Other Stories" by Pere Calders, if you've not seen it before. He's a Catalan writer.Anybody who gets rid of a book they've enjoyed surely has no soul.
It depends entirely on what they do with that book. If it's being passed on for others to enjoy then, in my book, you are encouraging reading - and that can only ever be a good thing!Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

There's a new (new to me at least) site for selling and buying second hand books. https://www.greenmetropolis.com. Most standard paperbacks are £3.75 incl postage0

Well and truly off-topic here, but I hope Ms Pickle does not mind as we are all erudite bibliophiles here.
As I was sorting books last night, an interesting puzzle suddenly struck me. So here is today's quiz question:
What do the following books have in common:
Barbarella.....(a book as well as a movie)
Lolita
Catch 22
The 87th Precinct novels
Can anyone think of any other books which could be included in this list?"If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

I'm currently trying to convince myself I don't need the DVD of Spain...On The Road Again which was a documentary series Gwyneth Paltrow did recently about the food of Spain, I need to go over to the No More DVDs thread again I think!
If you could find out the name of that book that would be lovelyAnd yes, I will get it out from the library
Hi lilian - haven't been on here for a couple of days, sorry, but I found the book and it's called Barcelona by Robert Hughes (I think nicca has already mentioned it). It's a great book, very readable and really interesting - hope you manage to find it at the library - she says quickly not wanting to incur Pickle's wrath!!!!
Thanks for your recommendations, will try to dig them out at my library as well:D:whistle: Who, me?!
Would you, Pickle :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time

The answer is that all the novels contain a character who has the same first and second name:
Durand Durand
Humbert Humbert
Major Major
Meyer Meyer
I am sure that there must be others."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

I am an avid book reader (err, and I keep them & re-read them). Have hundreds of them. Anyway, some of you must have heard of' The Works' - brilliant for books for £1 - they have shops & a website. Website is very slow though, but delivery is fine. I use shop & website0
