I didn't quite catch number 7.
For a moment I thought you'd said you'd bought a kindle.0 -

Can you argue that strictly speaking it's not a book as it's technology.....?;)
I've had a kindle for a couple of weeks (maybe 3) and love it. Isn't it just great? Struggling not to buy books for it though! And finding it hard to motivate myself to read the many unread paperbacks I own!0 -
I am almost finished Sarah Ferguson's autobiography and, to my great surprise, I've enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I did like her prior to reading it - I felt she was the breath of fresh air the Royal Family desperately needed, although (and by her own admission too) she was never the "right" person to be in such an old-fashioned, musty Establishment (with a capital E). She was never going to play by their rules, she was far too headstrong so ended up being hoist by her own petard really, author(ess?) of her own misfortune.
She does play on the "poor insecure me" a little too much, repeating herself many many times, almost seeming to be saying, "If I say it enough times people will believe it and feel sorry for me" but again, I do accept a lot of how she felt as genuine and can identify with quite a lot of her lack of self-belief and self-sabotage.
But it was an eye-opener in a lot of ways, she does not deny responsibility for her actions (which so many autobiographies try to do), she accepts her mistakes and reasons that had she been a regular Joe they would have been forgotten but being in the public eye at such a level, they were magnified horrendously.
The chapters about when the press turned against her, having initially welcomed her and feted her as the New Face of the Monarchy, is quite upsetting - some of the things the media said and did are appalling and would have destroyed a lot of people.
Also, how, post-separation from Prince Andrew, she was immediately and utterly frozen out, not only by the actual Royals but the courtiers and staff, despite having a punishing schedule to complete before retiring from Royal life - really quite distressing.
For me, she comes out of it tarnished certainly but well. Of course, more recently she has landed herself fully in it again with the "I can get you access to Andrew for half a mill" fiasco. That episode really just solidifies her own vision of herself that she provides the noose that everyone else will then use to hang her.
For me though, enjoyable, emotional, interesting, and gets a :T:T:T.
Now, need to finish my audio book from the library as it's due back soon so will prob listen to that over the weekend and then try to make a further dent in the unreads.
Happy reading all!

I agree. When you have read them all have a go at Jo Nesbo, very similar writing, and there are at least five to read. You don't necessarily have to read them in order, but think it might spoil things if you don'tYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

I've been trying to request things other than books from Amazon Vine (they send you new books from a list for free if they like your reviews). However I succumbed to Mennonite in A Little Black Dress, by Rhoda Janzen. The Guardian described it as hilarious. Sounds good to me. It arrived today.
I've been partial to humorous biography by American women ever since I read Betty McDonald (The Egg and I, etc) as a child. I wonder what I would think of those books forty years on?Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Oh heck. All Betty MacDonald's books are still available on Amazon. And all of them have very good reviews. That's me sunk....Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I second that re Jo Nesbo - wonderful writer and brilliant thrillers!
I have his new one - The Leopard - (bought with Water$stones points) waiting to be read!
Just finished The Girl on the Landing by Paul Torday. He is a wonderful writer and I would highly recommend all of his books. 5:T for this one!
Just started Nothing Like a Dame by Elaine C Smith. I bought this for my Mum at Christmas, she loved it and gave it back to me to read. Now there's value for money!;)

I absolutely love Elaine C Smith, fantastic actress and all round good person. I may well get that from the library if it's available in county stock. Must check.
