  • Hi All,

I'm currently reading "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell" by Susanna Clarke, I'm up to Page 114 - it's got 1006 pages  I'm starting to struggle a bit (that's to say I'm not enjoying the book that much). Has anyone else read it? and if so does it get better? or shall I give up and start reading something else? Thanks

I finished Lucky by Alice Sebold in the week - a bit hard going in places but a worthy read.

I am now reading Dewey - the library cat who touched the world. I am really enjoying it :j:j:j

I also have on my next to read list Fear the Worst by Linwood Barclay.

Since this is a no buying books thread ! I am ashamed to admit that I have visited the varying charity shops near my work this week and have picked up probably ten books.

They are all hiding behind the sofa waiting for me to read them !
  • I can't decide which book to read next has anyone read these ones and can help me ( i am SO undecisive lol) I have....the girl with the dragon tattoo, Stieg Larsson or Her Fearful Symmetry, Audrey Niffenegger (time traveller's wife author)....lol i was hoping for one with a happy ending but not really sure either of those fill that quota:rotfl:....

I've read both and would give them both :T:T:T:T:T. If you have the other two Stieg Larsson, I would read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but if not, read Her Fearful Symmetry. Really enjoyed that, much better than the Time Traveller's Wife in my opinion

I have the audio book of it....i think i managed about 3 hours of it and gave up...never really got into the story at all,and i never liked the voice reading it either.
  • Finished Linger - Maggie Stiefvater this morning.
Bit of a boring "middle" book....got to wait for the 3rd in the series to be released...think its march sometime.
I am going to make a dent in some library books now, thinking of starting Night of The Solstice - L.J Smith tonight. Never heard of it before, was in the young adult section, and i have read alot of her books in the past, she wrote Vampire Diaries (now the tv show) and the Nightworld series.

Also i have totally failed again, bought 3 books from Amazon this morning....and i am now realising i need a second bookshelf! Trip to IKEA during the week will be needed!

    So IN'S:
    Ash - Malinda Lo
Raised by Wolves - Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Bloody Valentine (A Blue Bloods Novella) - Melissa de la Cruz

Thanks LittlePinkStar - I think I'll probably go with my gut - which is considerable :rotfl:and start a book that I enjoy. ;)

  • Oh dear. This seems to be turning into a "here's my excuse for buying more books when I've already got lots to read yet" thread !

    :o:o:o Guilty as charged ! :o:o:o

It's my birthday today and I bought myself one Piers Anthony book in a series of seven (had 3 already) and got the other three as presents. (All off e-bay, second hand, and used Topcashback and Amex card to maximise Moneysaving. That's my excuse and I'm stuck with it.:))

Then I failed compleeeeeetely. :o Just happened to be browsing on e-bay and I came across The complete set of the Riverworld books by Philip Jose Farmer, in hardback, with no reserve, at only (so far) £1.04 + £3 postage. Got them for £8.50 inc postage. Nice present for myself, and I hope my eldest daughter will like them too, though I might let her read the paperbacks I already have, in order to preserve the hardbacks for posterity.

Sad git ? Yes ! And proud to be a book addict.:rotfl:

Finances will have to be reviewed this month, as my car needs a new exhaust and eldest daughter needs a laptop for school as her PC has just died (I'm sure I made do with the library and a calculator when I was a school ). I think I feel a new Amex 5% cashback card coming on.
