Do any of you own a kindle? Is it any good? I know it's not very MSE but I'm really tempted....

Yes and I love it more than my other half.....

and if you stick to downloading the free books (of which amazon have lots!) its very mse  - I've over 250 on it last time I sync'd it, I dread to think how much 250 books would have cost otherwise

I bought one for my DH. He loves it. I've been married 24 years and I think it's the best present I've ever bought him, that's how much he loves it!

Have finished two books lately - there is a small plus in not being able to sleep due to hideous back pain!!

Michael J Fox's second autobiography - Always Looking Up - again, really well written, not self absorbed, very interesting and insightful, lots of info on politics and trying to get changes in research law to try to find a cure for Parkinsons Disease which SOUNDS boring but isn't it's .... just... great.

The Help - loved it. Could really identify with the characters and their feelings but made me SO SO angry that racism of that level ever existed. Grrrr.

Next one will be Eat, Pray, Love I think....

I am having a small operation on my back next week and will be staying at mum's for two days as I won't be able to do anything. Taking three or four books as all I will be able to do is lie around!

    Woohooo! :T

Please use your local Library - very MSE. They are currently under treat throughout the country.

Finished Night of the Solstice last night....now i know i only started it last night. But the book only took me about 4 hours to get through, not a very big one!! It was a good story though, i'd like to read the follow up to it, Heart of Valour but the Glasgow libraries doesn't have it in...have requested so will see how that goes. I have read almost all of her books (Vampire Diaries, Dark Powers and Nightworld) So i wanted to read these too. She has another series called Secret Circle which i have reserved from the library to read!

Took books back to the library today, had a look around, nothing interested me though so i will wait my reservations come in!
But i have even more confessions to make....was in Tesco today and the children's/YA books were buy one get one free (£6.99 each), so i picked up 2, but they never went through the tills on offer. Ended up with £14 back with the double the difference policy....so in all fairness i was paid £7 to take 2 books away with me!
    So i got:
    0.4 - Mike Lancaster
Low Red Moon - Ivy Devlin

Then i took advantage of the 10% off and free delivery codes for bookpeople.co.uk, they are doing the full set of 10 Sookie Stackhouse/Tru Blood books for £9.99....got the lot for £8.99 delivered with the codes.

Urm...then i kinda joined in a few monthly challenges/buddy reads over on goodreads.com, so i ended up ordering the books for them from Amazon
Touch the Dark - Karen Chance
    Radiance - Alyson Noel
Divine by Blood - P.C Cast

So i am now away to look at IKEA for a new bookcase, and figure out where on earth i could fit another one in my room...oh and update my list and sig!!

edit: started Entangled - Cat Clarke on the bus this morning.

I totally agree - USE 'EM OR LOSE 'EM!

I use my library frequently. I love it, the service is great and the staff are very helpful and friendly. I have emailed our council to tell them so!
Support your local library if you can and give them feedback good or bad - any response is better than being indifferent and then wondering where they've gone when they're closed due to "cutbacks"!
Oops - got on my soapbox there!;)

    How annoying is THIS??

So I have arranged to have my back done privately next week - I have booked the surgery, I have booked the time off work, as has my husband, I have got mum and dad to have the children for a couple of days so I can recuperate without having to worry about lifting them or getting up in the night etc...

The private cost is £1,800.00. Ouch, but luckily we have it and had earmarked it for this so we were "ok" about it (as "ok" as you can be about spending that much on ANYTHING other than a mountain of chocolate topped with marshmallows anyway!),

Last night my private surgeon rang me up to say my local NHS hospital ARE now doing these surgeries at a much-reduced price and gave me a name and number to call to find out more.

So I phoned the local NHS hospital today and yes, they can do the same thing for £200.00. But not until around the end of May.

    So, dilemma:- I can either;

    (1) Wait another three months, in the amount of pain I am constantly in (a lot, I hardly sleep these days, can't lift the children, can't do half my housework etc..), but save £1,600.00.

    or

    (2) Have it done as planned next week and be out of pain much more quickly but spend the whole £1,800.00.

It might seem an easy decision to anyone, especially anyone MSE - because surely a saving is the only way forward? And £1,600 is a LOT of money. But for me, in serious amounts of pain, it's not quite such an easy decision.

Am going to talk it through with Mr Sessie and my parents this afternoon (I only work a half day today) but.... aaaargh! which decision to take?

The stress is enough to send me to The Book People's website...... * cough * ....

  • Hi everybody....can I join too? I counted up last night and have 42 books unread but just finished one so ticked it off in my signature to motivate me slightly....hope its not cheating too much!!

My downfall is when I found amazon sells them 2nd hand so cheap. I tried to set a budget of £20 spend per month on books but when you can buy up to 7 for that my shelves began heaving faster than I can keep up!!
