Morning all.
Martyn is doing well but he's still very weak and gets tired quickly which frustrates him, his arms seem to be the weakest for some reason,he can barely hold them up.
Not sure what I'm going to do today, the plan was to nip on the bus into town for a few bits I need but it's snowing and the road doesn't look too good. The traffic is crawling along nose to tail out on the front road and I'm not sure about the buses. They must be running because DD has got to school but I haven't seen any go past, they may just be delayed with the traffic & snow. I hope it clears because I'm expecting a grocery delivery at tea-time, I haven't done any proper shopping for a few weeks, just picked up odd bits & pieces from the corner shop and I'm running low on some storecupboard basics.
I think I'll just potter about for the rest off the day and cook something nice for dinner as we're not at the hospital tonight.
Have a good day & hugs to all that want one. xxDum Spiro Spero0 -
Morning all!
Been MIA again! Went off to Brighton to see some friends for the weekend and had a fabulous time! Met up with old school friends on Saturday night as one is leaving to live in India for 2 years soon, and will miss our annual reunion, so it was lovely to catch up. I stayed with another old pal who I worked with 20 years ago! We had a great time gossiping and we did lots of cooking, she is quite capable but not at all confident. We made a meal plan, went shopping and then cooked! Roast chicken for dinner, which we then stripped ready for stir fry and chicken pies, we also made a little leek and cheese pie for me as I'm veggie! Bolognese in the SC with instruction on freezing some and turning the remainder into chilli with the addition of kidney bean, peppers, toms and any odd veg, plus remembering to freeze some for wraps/potato toppings. Veg soup - huge pan ready for snacks and freezing. Pizzas. Tom sauce for pasta/pizza topping/adding to bolognese. French dressing! Even showed her to drizzle oil, salt and paprika on potato peelings and bung in bottom of oven whilst doing the roast, so the kids could have something to nibble, and showed how to make a sweet chilli dip to go with them. Extolled the virtues of the SC, and left detailed instructions for sausage casserole and how it really only needs a pack of sausages by the time you've added a ton of veg, and instructions for toad in the hole and a reminder to cut the sausages in half lengthwise to make it look like there are more! Was really good fun, both my friend and her two boys enjoyed it and were astounded at how food stretches when you try. Also pointed out the whoopsies in the supermarket and how it can be worth buying them to freeze for the next week's mealplan! Now just need to remember to send her detailed instructions on making different types of bread - she's keen to have hm bread and rolls but has never made them!
Today I shall be doing some meal planning and cooking here! Went shopping in Lidl and Aldi yesterday for veg and fruit bargains, and Aldi had the remains of the Chinese food promo, so stocked up again on coconut milk and also got some bbq sauce, so will use that with the pork loins I have in the freezer for the end of the week I think. Also nipped into Waitrose, as their reductions go out about lunchtime and are usually really good, came back with several boxes of quorn that's always good for curries and stir fries, and was only 60p a box, plus the outer sleeves have MOC on them!
Other OS stuff will be general cleaning and S&S the kitchen and bathrooms and attacking Mount Washmore as always - I shall conquer it one day!
Going to catch up now and then nose on the meal planning thread for inspiration! Have a good day all, hugs to those who need them or just want one xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Hartm - happy birthday
jc2703 - cheecky so and so stealing your cash and id!! Glad you got it back.
Thanks for the comments about my Mum. I think I perhaps worded it not to well in my post yesterday as I was trying to be quick, plus there is a lot more to it than I said. In relation to what I said about visiting, it was that the kids were a bit bored of the Edinburgh festival and being dragged around, and rather than take them there at great expense and them not appreciate it, perhaps we could visit at another time. EDITED TO ADD: it was phrased slightly nicer than that!! Also, please don't think my kids are ungrateful, they're not. They've been to the festival for the last 4 or 5 years and have really enjoyed a lot of the shows. However, they're getting to that age where they're a bit old for the kids shows and bit young for the adult shows! There feelings are more about the days themselves, out of a 10 day holiday to my mums we went into Edinburgh 4 times last summer, and each day was hectic, running around from show to show with no time in the middle to relax and just wander about and enjoy the ambience and the street entertainers.
My mum is 300 miles away, and has only ever visited once. We are expected to visit her, the last visit was at Christmas and we also had to take the foster cat, so its a bit of a trek doing a 600 mile round trip.
She also "looks after" a little girl who is now 6. Won't go into the circumstances of that, but she has this little girl every weekend, and a lot of times in school holidays. Whenever we go everything is centred around her, and my 2 have started to notice as they're not daft. They ask me why there Nan pays more attention to this child who isn't related to her than them, and they always get told off and she doesn't. This has also put them off visiting. At Christmas they got called selfish for wanting to go swimming because this little girl has grommits and couldn't go. I'm not being funny, but we didn't go to visit the girl, we went to visit my mum, and if thats something the kids want to on on Christmas Eve with their mum and their nan I don't think thats selfish.
Its other silly things like she buys this girl a magazine every week, but didn't think to buy the kids one on the time when they went to the shop with her to collect said magazine. I also feel uncomfortable that she doesn't treat the little girls brother in the same way or take him out, so worry about how this will make him feel.
It may sound petty or silly, but I think the comment about not being bothered in seeing the kids was the final straw. I can't understand how you can build a relationship with what is effectively a random child, and not want to build one with your own grandchildren.
Anyway, not very OS, but thought I would clarify a bit from what I said yesterday.0 -
Hart - many happy returns, I hope you have a fabulous day, and welcome to the thread! I live in a tiny hamlet and quite often it can be groundhog day-ish here too, so always nice to have the internet to be able to see the rest of the world!
JC - glad you got your money and id back, cheeky mare, hope the police had something to say to her!
Ladyshopper - I missed your first post, but it does all sound rather lopsided, I hope that things work out in a way which makes you and your children happy
Essexgirl - I too have a smear test today, whoopee! Went in on Thurs but the doc couldn't find any speculums (think that's what he needed, sure all the nurses out there will correct me if I've just suggested something for cleaning ears lol!), the joys of life in the back of beyond, nobody seems to worry about much round here! A little infuriating at times, especially now that I have to go in again today!
Diva - so glad to hear that Tris is up and about again, I hope that he doesn't get too frustrated and gives his body time to recover
Taplady - enjoy the meal and forgetting your worries for a bit may be just what you need
Jackie - looks like I missed your birthday, hope you had a fab time!
Forgot to mention, my car is now being sorted out! Finally got hold of the garage yesterday, the guy in charge had a heart attack last week, which explains why he wasn't answering his phone! I hope that me reading him the riot act didn't contribute to it!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Hi Guys!
Thanks for all the comments. We appreciate them a lot.
We had good news yesterday that DD got her placement for work experiance and she is sooooooooooooo happy:j:j:j:j...they offered it to her at the interview and she started blubbing as she was so happy! OH took her up there and bought her a present to remind her of the day and her achievement. She also asked if she could keep the visitors badge and she has lamanated it:D We are so very proud of her!
Funeral has been sorted for 2 weeks time. OH is struggling and every so often I find him crying. Although I have lost people I love before this is totally different and I think it's more because I can see OH hurting so much. My heart actually aches.
Once the funeral is done I have to go in hospital for a couple of weeks as my health isnt good and I think the stress/grief has made it a bit worse. They just want to run some more tests and for me to rest properly. I will see how OH is though as I cant leave him if he's not good.
We are going away for a few days later this week as we need a change of scenery. Will take books and board games to play and just spend some quality time together as that's what FIL would have wanted. Neither of us have slept properly for 3 weeks.
Anyway, hope everyone is well.
We are having Shepherds Pie for dinner today. WM has been on. House clean and tidy.
Hugs to all.

PenPin, could your OH's mum come to visit while you are in hospital, as company for both her and OH & DD? Then maybe all of you could rest and he could begin to go through the grieving process with his mum?0 -
