Could you be puting in too large a load so it's not rinsing properly? It'd show up more on dark clothes.

i get those white marks when i get over-zealous with the amount of washing i ram into the machine :D
  • OK, after reading your suggestions, I think it may be too much washing in at a time. I will try and reduce that a little. I'm using sainsburys own brand tablets in the machine. I will look for lidl or netto's own brand liquid and see if that helps.

I have started to notice I am getting white powdery marks on my dark clothes after a wash. Does anyone know the reason for this? Is my washing machine on it's way out?

I currently use one washing tablet, a sprinkling of soda crystals and fabric conditioner in each wash.

    Thanks

it sounds like undisolved powder to me.. about once a month I run the washing machine empty on hot to clean it through,,,,,, although to be honest its usually the microfibe cloths in there with a tiny bit of extra stardrops
If that doesnt help try taking the drawer out & washing that you will be shocked what builds up in there (although if you use tablets do you put them in the drawer or in the wash so to speak - smiling now cos I realised I had typed disloved power the first time lol
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

    Hello

Can anyone tell me why freshly washed but dry dark clothes have white streaks on them? Sometimes it's so bad I need to was them again.
I don't overload the machine, use liquid and softener add via the drawer and tend to use a 40 was (unless delicates then it's the wool wash!)

    Any advice appreciated
    TIA
  • My best guess would be soap powder marks. I always wash stuff inside out, so if you try washing darks inside out, that might do the trick. I also use about half the amount of soap powder recommended on the box.

Thanks but the thing is I don't use washing powder just liquid and even if the clothes are inside out it doesn't seem to make any difference?

Always wash the clothes inside out,
the streaks are because of the bleach in the liquid/powder. This is why black clothes eventually become greyer and greyer.
Use the cheapest you can find as these dont have bleach in them either that or something like Persil Colour.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

We get this problem too. We use a gentle liquid clothes wash liquid, not powder and we are often left with white marks on black clothes. We have cleaned the washing machine filter and also done an overnight 90 degree wash with a cup each of white vinegar & soda crystals in case it was due to a clogged machine. Nothing has really made much difference. I am not going to wash everything at 60 degrees because I want to keep our energy use as low as possible. Have just read about a product called 'Dolly washer balls' which Lakeland sell. They are a set of 9 ribbed plastic balls which you put in with your wash and the extra pounding action (supposed to mimic pounding your laundry with a dolly posser in the old days when everyone hand-washed in big tubs). You are supposed to be able to get away with using less detergent as well as gettin reduced residue left on clothes. Am going to buy some and give them a try.
