White marks on clothes

I have just endured two hours of ironing and noticed that some of my t shirts still have white marks on them, despite being washed twice now.
They look like the sort of marks you get from deodorant, but they are on the front at the bottom.
They look sort of like crease marks.
Any ideas, how I get rid of the marks...or do I just bin the t shirts?

Could be deodorant, sometimes it catches onto the bottom edge if the t-shirt rolls up while you're struggling into it. Try dabbing with diluted ammonia -- half ammonia to half water (hold your breath and turn your head slightly before you open the bottle, the vapour makes you choke  ).

  • white marks on clothes certainly caught my attention!!! haha, really didn't think of deoderant when i first saw it, hope i'm not the only one with a dirty mind ......... hmmm.... sure we've all been there at some point!!!

    anyways, lol

as i've said before, the best way to get rid of any stains on clothes, carpets, suites etc is to use soda crystals, soak the tshirts in hot water with them then add some to washing machine when washing tshirts. always worked a treat for me.

    hope it works for u!!!!

My immediate thought was that it could be washing powder (obviously my mind is cleaner!!!!!) Sometimes undissolved washing powder gets caught in creases of the clothes, this is usually when I have overloaded the washing machine, & there is not so much "spare" water for it to dissolve in. It could be that too much powder is used, (but that is not usually the way I cause the problem!)

Edit: Sorry, didn't give a "what to do about it"!
If it is washing powder, then washing with less powder or less other washing should help, although if you have ironed it in, you will need to use something to get it right out first - try rubbing with a cloth soaked in Stardrops, that usually does the trick with most things.
  • I have this problem too on some of DS's darker coloured T shirts. I think in my case it's my iron being too hot for the fabric and marking it somehow because often the marks are vaguely iron shaped :o

Haven't found a cure, I'm afraid, I manage to ruin most of his T shirts (this is a ploy to get him to do his own but I haven't succeeded yet, sigh). He still wears them though (student  )

How about ironing inside out, frugalfairy? Alternatively, you could double-up the t-shirt with a teatowel on the ironing board. I often do that to halve the ironing time with things that don't need perfect pressing.

I used to get some white marks from the washing powder not dissolving properly. I use washing liquid now and (while the problem is much reduced) I still get some white/gray lines on dark clothing. I think it could be that sometimes there is some grime/sediment that gets deposited from the dirty washing water onto the inside of the glass door. As the machine never gets full enough to wash the glass properly some of the muck comes off on the clothes during the spin cycle. When I remember I give the inside of the door and seal a wipe.

Sounds like a complete mare :(

I wonder if letting the machine do a cycle empty might help?

Other than that turn jeans etc inside out although thans not going to help much with underwear etc.
