I'd try boiling some chicken up for him if you're worried about him eating, or some white fish - make sure to remove any bones. Mine loves chicken steamed in the micro in a little water, with a sauce made from the water and a little cornflour - yes, she's spoilt rotten. Tablets go down best when buried in some soft cheese, I find."All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.
I'm intolerant of wheat, citrus, grapes, grape products and dried vine fruits, tomato, and beetroot, and I am also somewhat caffeine sensitive.0 -
I don't actually have either of those things in, doh!
I have ham and tuna, his favourites but probably not very good for him, with the salt etc.
I just tempted him to eat at any rate, by mushing wet food down into a paste and letting him lick jellyfied lumps off my fingers. He then proceeded to go and eat the kibble, I'm just hoping he doesn't barf it back up! It took quite a few hours last time he ate before he was sick, about 4/5 hours.
The vet did say he had a poop and a wee there, and he's had a wee here, so things must be going through.
Wish the other cat would stop growling at him though, I'm worried she's going to scare him off from the food bowls/litter box with her meanness.
Why doesn't she know him? Do they rely on smell to tell it's each other? Maybe I'll rub Archie with my top or something, though he has been sleeping on the clothes I was wearing today, obviously felt like I was missing the white cat pubics on my trousers.
If he does a poop here, I'll stop worrying because I know food will be going down. At any rate!0 -
His paw is a right mess, all caked with blood, his stomach scar looks very neat though.
He was weighed at the vets, he weighs just under 4kg now, he was over 5kg before he got sick, and was too skinny at that weight for his size. He has a lot of fur. I can feel his spine poking through when you stroke him and his shoulder blades and the bones at the hips are jutting right through. Not good0 -
Bless him, hope he feels better soon! He may be sick from the drugs/the stress and shock of his problem and treatment.
Don't worry, my mother spent that much (all in all I think about £800?) on a stray before. He turned up on our doorstep having been run over and he was pinned back together and moved into our garage (too miserable and wild to want to live in the house, but liked being waited on!). We had him about 5 years until he died of old age.
Luckily, my partner is just as bad as me so when either of us spots some charity case at least we know the other won't mind.
I think it says a lot about a person if they have compassion for animals...quite often I've seen someone I would think a complete imbecile only to find they've taken in some waif or stray and I just think 'oh, they aren't so bad'.0 -
Just a Cat
From time to time people tell me "lighten up, it's just a cat" or "that's a lot of money for just a cat".
They don't understand the distance travelled time spent or costs involved for just a cat.
Some of my proudest moments have come about with just a cat.
Many hours have passed with my only company being just a cat, and not once have I felt slighted.
Some of my saddest moments were brought about by just a cat.
In these days of darkness, the gentle touch of just a cat provided comfort and purpose to overcome the day.
If you too think it's just a cat, you'll probably understand phrases like "just a friend", "just a sunrise", or "just a promise".
Just a cat brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and pure unbridled joy.
Just a cat brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person.
Because of just a cat I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.
For me and folks like me, it's not just a cat or a dog - it's an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past and the pure joy of the moment.
Just a cat brings out what's good in me, and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday people can understand it's not "just a dog or a cat", it's the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a man" or "just a woman".
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog" or "just a cat", smile.
Because they just don't understand.

You just remind your OH that he is JUST an OH .... grrrrrrr @ him!! *LOL*0 -
That's a lovely poem.
To be fair to OH, he is going to do some OT to pay for the bill, he just isn't attached to the cats, so can't see why I'd spend that much money on him. He did tell me, he won't pay another big bill like that, so insurance I'll get sorted this week.
I am worried Archie will be exluded for any sort of stomach problem because of what has happened, even the vet said most places would probably not include that. So I'm presuming upset stomach etc, wouldn't be covered? Nightmare really as it's the most likely thing to happen to him, that or urine infection. Pfffft!
He's currently snoozing on the arm of the chair and the other cat is glaring at him from across the room. It really suprises me how hostile she is being, she was never his best friend before but they slept together and she would on occasion batter him, then pin him down so she could clean his head (he's a bit of a tink and doesn't groom enough, she clearly thinks so too)0 -
Isn't it? *S* ... I found it ages ago and thought I'd save a copy of it!
Well, to give OH the benefit of the doubt, maybe he is more attached to Archie than he makes out and is, like men worldwide, just not showing his feelings.
But if we aren't going to be charitable (he he he!) and just think he may not just be being all macho and manly, then I would tell him not to worry, that you realise his concern is the cost and just to make up for it you will be sure not to go overboard when you buy his birthday and Christmas present this year ... ha ha ha ...
I don't have insurance (a few friends have had a nightmare job claiming and that has put me off) but I do have the best vet in the world who, in emergency cases (like the £1,373 it came to when my old Yorkie needed a big op and a week's stay at the surgery ... eeekkksss!) has assured me that he will always let me pay a little a week till I pay anything off and wouldn't with-hold treatment for any of my pets.
Of course, not everyone has a vet who will do that, so I do fully appreciate people taking insurances out though!
I bet your other cat thinks Archie has been replaced by a totally different cat .. I mean, he looks weird with his lampshade, he will smell rather pongy of other animals and strangers and all the sterilising lotion that will have been put on him where he has had the syringe in his leg through his op ... so I can understand her being wary of him!
Have you tried him with some fish? Now and then, if my cat goes off eating a bit, I get her some from the fish and chip shop and just take the batter off. She won't eat fish as a rule but that must taste a bit different than any you buy and cook yourself!
I wouldn't try him too much with food though ... his tummy is going to be turning somersaults, feeling sore and for a few days the anaesthetic is still going to be in his system and he may just want to sleep so I'd just get food that is rather whiffy (smelly sardines, a few prawns, really smelly stuff to prompt him to eat) and put it down for him. I am sure when he feels better himself, he will demand a four course meal!!0 -
How is the wee man today Buttons? Poor skinny little one, I want to give him a cuddle!Mummy to

He seems better today! Still sleeping mostly but comes beside me to sleep, he's scoffing a lot more and his pills are going down a treat in some cream cheese!
he's not been to the litter box today yet though, neither has my other cat for that matter, there was a wee and a poo in the box this morning, probably the other cats. hope they aren't going anywhere else !!0 -
I spent £300 having sillycat's tail removed after she got scared of it and savaged it to the bone, and now she is fine. Oh just said its my money, if I want to spend it on the cat that's ok!
Maybe if I'd had to ask him we would have had to do the old 'wire round the tail till it drops off' approach _pale_Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o
