Which old estate car would you recommend

If you support my choice of a Mondeo
i will tell you to try 4551:D0 -
I've got an old V40 and I'm very happy with it. Not terribly economical though and the V70 offers a lot more load space.
I also hired a Mondeo on holiday and was very impressed with that.
I've got a V40, R reg, it's a lovely car :T
I find it has more boot space and is more economical than the last car I had (which was a 2.3L petrol auto galaxy _pale_) so maybe that doesn't say much!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Time for my tuppence worth. I'd go for a Volvo 940/960 estate. Make sure its a turbo and an automatic. OK its boring but the load space, especially with rear seats down is phenomenal...So comfy though..I had a 240 GLT once, leather seats that were like armchairs..."If you are going through Hell, keep going" - Winston Churchill0

or a vectra diesel estate,no timing belt to worry about
just fuel pump failure Craig...0 -
Watch for seized rear calipers if it has discs all round and corrosion of the front crossmember if it's built anything like the Almera.
Mine was 2003 with 35k on the clock and suffered from both.
I do hope you rejected it under the SOGA...
Mondeo estate, Vectra estate, V70/V90/940/960. 5 Series, 406 are all decent sized...0 -
Saab 9-5 Estate 2.2 Diesel? Or a 3 litre diesel for a little more pep?
Stylish, loads of room. Parts can be expensive, but some are interchangeable with Vauxhall Vectra parts, which should be cheaper.
Finding a low mileage one can be tricky, as they all seem to be well over 100k, but there must be some out there...0 -
If it is big enough Skoda Octavia Estate or may be a Toyota Avensis D4-D (diesel) gets my vote.
Land Rover just not prooving to be reliable enough and expensive to fix to get my recommendation.
Land Rover alternatives: What about a Mitsubishi Shogun Sport 2.5 diesel, some of those under £3000 around at about 100,000 miles and 9 years old.
Sorry it is petrol, but I had a ride in a friend of mines over the weekend and I was very impressed by it. Comfortable and refined. There's was the V6 automatic 24mpg but there is also a 2.4 petrol manual 28mpg. Hyundai Santa Fe?
Volvo V70 is tempting but they all have such big miles on them and wil be way more expensive to run than something like an Octavia. In fact you would be better off borrowing a bit of money to get a younger Octavia with much lower running costs than getting some of these big old beasts - unless it's a big old beast you really want.0 -
Possibles, in no particular order:
Volvo' s nice looking but V70 too big and V40 boot space seems compromised by wheel arches
Octavia I like, but does dash look a bit plasticy
Ford mondeo or focus estate, both within price range and seem reasonably economical depending on model. Not sure about reliability, but parts will be easy to get.
Vauxhall astra/ vectra estate lot of these about. Vectras have been recommended but not astra, any reason?
Others suggested not available locally at mo.
What do you think of my list?0
