Thanks you all for all your kind messages of support, it means a lot to me. DH will be home tonight and we will have a hug and a sob and talk about all the great things our dog did for us. However we won't be able to dwel too much as have to take a business friend out to dinner, probably a good thing!
Not a good week so far, not only the dog but went out last night to see some relatives who are staing in a nearby hotel and had dinner with them and dinner out tonight. I know there are lots of suggestions for eating less but as I don't eat out that often I tend to treat is as a big treat and eat every thing. I wil just have to try and be sensible for the rest of today."doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0 -
Weigh day, and oh dear. Was 11st 2.6lb, am now 11st 2.4lb. Ah well, it's a loss, of sorts
so no point in being annoyed/upset/whatever. It took me years to get to this weight so it's not going to run away overnight. Will keep on keeping on, ideally would like to be under 11st when I go away but as that's in 16 days I'm not holding my breath!
Liz I'm pleased for you that your DH is back this evening so you can be together and reminisce. Enjoy your dinner out, the last thing you should be thinking of is holding back on food.
ragz thanks for the link, the sketch at the top was very appropriate to some folk I know0 -
Hi Liz, when I'm out I look for the fish options - they are lower in calories than meat, but also I justify this (in my mind) as I rarely buy king prawns due to cost and rarely cook anything other than salmon at home so it is still a treat.
Hugs to you again.0 -
Sparrer well done on the loss, you're going in the right direction even if it doesn't seem like a lot don't despair!
Eenymeeny If you've hit a plateau you really need to up your exercise, that's usually the best way to get the metabolism going again. Can you go swimming? Walking?
Post us your food diary and we'll see where we can go with that...
Lovetopaint even tinned baked beans count as one of your 5 a day, which is great!
I was going to do salmon fishcakes for dinner but I opened the tin to find a load of skin and bones in my fish! I have never bought tinned salmon before (first time I ate salmon at all was 2 days ago, I'm not keen on fish!) but I read the label very carefully and no where did it say "may contain bones" not to mention the skin
I am fuming and I am going to return the other tin to Tesco, I don't care if they laugh at me
MIL said just mash them up but I have little kids and I can't feed the baby bones! Then she suggested that Waitrose do lovely Salmon fishcakes... I really don't think she 'gets' me at all :rotfl:June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

ragz - you can eat the bones in tinned salmon (except the big round one) - the tinning process makes them go soft, and I've been told they're a good source of calcium. I don't blame you for not wanting to risk it with your LOs, though. Tinned tuna (line-caught for preference
) or mackerel might be better for what you want - both make lovely fishcakes and are bone-free in my experience.
I love tinned salmon and your post has reminded me that I have a tin in the cupboard, which solves my problem of what to have for lunch tomorrow - tinned salmon and cucumber sandwiches it is! :drool:Back after a very long break!0 -
hi Ragz, I don't think there should be a lot of skin and bones in a tin of salmon so you are right to take it back, with smaller tined fish the cooking process makes the bones soft and you can just safely mash them in, this ups the calcium content too. I think salmon bones might be a bit big to mash in but on the plus side you can "fish" them out easily:D
Why would you buy fishcakes? they are a storecupboard/leftover staple, the perfect OS dish."doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0 -
Lovetopaint - i got my exercise bike on Freecycle best find ever! I sit in front of the telly and try and do 20/30 mins, it's got an arm exercise thingy too so is a really good work out! (i've only had it since sunday, hence the massive enthusiasm...ask me again in 3 months and it might have morphed into a clothes horse...we shall see!)Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

I use tinned salmon a lot and there is always skin and bones in UNLESS the tin says skinless and boneless which will be more expensive. Normally I dislike skin on fish but in salmon it contains the healthy omega 3 which is so good for us so I mash it into the salmon with a fork and you wouldn't know it's there. The bones are very soft and these will mash easily too. If you haven't used tinned salmon before then it probably came as a shock but if you can get over it and mash it in it is good for everybody.
PS moneysavingwise I recently discovered there is no real difference between red and pink salmon except price - apparently they just come from different areas of the fish. so I always buy the cheaper pink salmon for fish cakes.
A salmon sandwich is one of my favourite treats every week. I actually make up a batch of salmon sandwiches and freeze them which means I don't have to use all the tin at once.0 -
I buy the salmon ones marked skinless and boneless.
I prefer red to pink - think it tastes different personally.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I managed to eat breakfast today
b - HM banana smoothie
l - slice of roast pork, with carrots and parsnips, 2 roast potatoes and gravy. Followed by a small cupcake
t - (Leftover) steamed salmon, peas, 2 new potatoes and 1 slice of bread, with hollandaise sauce. Small slice of tea loaf
My aim for tomorrow is to not have any cake!Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
