One of the bosses just bought us lunch! I was really good and only had a panini, could have had burger or scampi & chips so pleased with myself.

OH got up at 5am as he couldn't sleep so we have tonights tea of chilli in the slow cooker too.

Struggling with the alcohol though :o my downfall is opening a bottle of wine.

I've not really kept an eye what i've been eating the last few days and now feeling really bloated and groggy as its almost my totm so i'll be starting my food diary after xmas now, my willpower is always horrendous the few days too. But i have kept up with my wii fit and walking so hopfully i wont have too much of a gain.
To get me motivated in the new year i ordered myself jillian michaels - 30day shred- dvd from amazon (found an old e-voucher code:T), the reviews say its really tough but you see results which is more than i can say for some exercise dvds i've had before:o

    Hi all

Another good day for me, mainly because of unexpected work in my email inbox that needed attention ASAP so I worked all day and missed lunch!

B: 2 wholemeal toast (no butter) light cream cheese

    L: 2 advent calender chocs (I'm a day behind not eating a day ahead ;) )

D: HM roasted veg sauce with wholemeal pasta, small cibatta roll and a little grated cheese

S: Probably nothing unless I decide to make mince pies in the next 30 mins

Have a good one all :)

    hi everyone :D

i really need to get back to posting as despite my good intentions i seem to be going up not down :o i feel really bloated and grumpy because of i and i know its just not worth it.
its so hard at this time of year, i am doing ok at avoidimg the chocs and mince pies at work but its the wine and meals out that are a struggle to say no to.

i am ok when the kids are at home but because of the holidays they are spending more time with their dad which means i'm spending more time eating with OH. this really does sound like a whingey, excuse filled post doesnt it :o:o:o

well i have a wedding to go to on the 22nd jan and a dress to wear on new years eve so i need to get my act together.

    today has been
    2 x crumpets with butter
    hotdog sausage sandwich :o
hm leek & chicken pie with peas and new pots

snacks have been: 1 crumpet, 3 chocolates and a glass of wine

i will be at pizza hut for tea tomorrow but i'm going to have to control what i put into my mouth.

hope you are doing better than me

I make sure we have veg with every meal either as part of it or as a side dish and I noticed it was getting really expensive so I've now got a few cheeky ways of padding things out cheaply.

For cottage pie/roasts etc we always have the following as they go a long way and are very cheap most of the year:

    Carrots
    Cabbage
    Swede
then I will add smaller amounts of one more pricy veg like frozen peas, broccoli, green beans etc

Braised red cabbage works out surprisingly cheap as one cabbage, a few manky apples and cooking onions make 8-10 portions that can be frozen so you don't always need fresh veg (Delia recipe is fab)

For stuff like chilli, italian etc we always have a salad on the side and I use the same theory of padding it out with cheaper stuff with a little bit of posh odds and sods:

Always buy the pairs of Cos or Romaine lettuce then wash each leaf shake dry and put in a Lock and Lock box, they can easily last for 2 weeks like this. Initially they cost more than iceberg but they last twice as long so no waste
Grated carrot and chopped celery bulk it out cheaply and add texture
    Chopped cucumber
Then add a few smaller bits of the following on top:
    Tinned corn
    Red onion
    Sliced pepper

For snacks I buy stuff that is ready portioned by nature and whatever is in season:
    Apples
    Pears
    Plums
If you are trying to save money, buying stuff like mango, pineapple, grapes, cherries is counter-productive because its very sweet, more difficult to portion and very expensive.

I actually use apples/pears as a test of whether I'm hungry at all as I think they are OK but not my favourite, so if I'm tempted to snack I mentally ask myself "Are you hungry enough that you would eat an apple if it was in front of you" if the answer is yes then I eat something.

I'm not saying to not buy the more expensive fruit and veg because lots of colours and different varieties are better for you, just use them more as a 'garnish' or 'accessory'

We go through tons of carrots because I add them to everything, grated in Italian dishes, chopped in pies etc

Just an update, had a good day yesterday, made 2 dozen mince pies and had one with a cuppa at 9pm then boxed the rest up for MIL minus about 5 for OH as neither of us really eat them much.

Today will be hard as we are having a takeaway later but I will try and be sensible

B: 2 wholemeal toast (no butter) HM marmalade

L: Wholemeal flatbread with salad and chicken

D: Probably Vegetable malaysian noodles, they are fairly dry and very spicy so I don't tend to eat them all :)

    Have a good day all

Can I join in? I had vague thoughts about trying to lose weight in the New Year but a shock weigh in this morning found me at nearly 3 stones heavier than I was last year! So the diet has started today - just eating normal food but less of it - avoiding high sugar/fat foods & alcohol and beng more physically active

Its been an up & down year for us - money/job worries mainly - and I've been comfort eating as a result. But planning to make positive changes to our lifetyle to have a better 2011 - - - - losing weight, getting physically fitter & improving general health/wellbeing takes will power rather than cash so I hope that it will be a goal that is achieveable :)

Will be following this thread with interest!

    Hi Charlies_aunt, welcome aboard :)

It sounds like you have a very sensible approach to losing weight so we look forward to hearing how you get on

I'm still doing Ok at the moment, trying to eat sensibly without being wasteful and throwing the high fat/sugar things away so I'm restricting myself to a treat every other day. Something like a HM mince pie or a small slice of HM cake makes it easier to be sensible.

B: 2 wholemeal toast with HM jam

L: Warm ciabatta roll with mozzarella, vine tomato and green pesto

D: HM veg soup with a crusty roll

S: When OH gets home later I might have a small piece of Christmas cake or a HM mini damson bakewell tart with a cuppa

Still haven't been out on my bike, we've been waiting for the snow to thaw and now that its almost gone I have no excuse ;)
