I haven't made mayo for many years now but I know it is easy to make in a food processor so I am happy to give it a try.

I am snowed in today! So, providing I have the ingredients in the house I can try some testing again today.

Re: lunches, I may be way off the mark now but I remember a discussion a few days ago. I make a lot of soups with whatever I have left over or whatever is on offer in the shops. Have you thought of more soups for lunches? They are usually cheap to make.

I noticed from Jo the board guide's profile page that her last MSE activity was february 23rd :( so I expect we won't get a definitive answer. I guess we just launch it and include a 'hope this is in the right place' in post 1?

Re ariarnia, do say if she gets back to you. I'm a bit unsure how to get lists to her in time...:(

Glad the tins arrived safely:T, arty I shall try to get to the post office today with yours :)
and on a different matter, poohbear/grandma247 or anyone who makes chicken stock, I used approx 2 tbsps vinegar to get more goodness out of the carcass of a chook, and it's been all night in the slo cooker.

    Now what? :D

Hello I've been away for a while but I am now pleased to announce I have a kitchen at long last, it's such a relief.

Weezl congratulations to you and your family on the new arrival of your beautiful baby boy, I really don't know where you get your energy from to cope with two little boys and all the work you do on this project too.

And well done to all on all the work that has been done so far, it really is an impressive project.

re: the mayonaise. I have made homemade lots of time and it's not quite as difficult as it seems. But it doesn't last very long. I guess the smart price one once open will probably keep in the fridge for the full month (well mine stays in there months!)

Weezl I made your bacon and onion pudding last night not realising it was no longer on the planner. It was really easy and absolutely delicious, so delicious me and OH went back for more, and more. I am very embarassed to say we ate the whole lot between us. next time I will serve more veggies with it and it will def serve 4.

Anyway if you need any recipes testing please give me a shout. I am off to poundland later to buy myself a 4th bread tin, is the recipe on your blog up to date Weezl?

    Thanks to all.

welcome back jenni :Dand glad the new kitchen is in place :)

Erm in true weezl changeability the bacon and onion pud is back on, so you'll be pleased :)

Will shirley's last a week? Mayo I mean? Or is that unrealistic. In the fridge in a sterilised jar?

Would appreciate if anyone's fingers can do some googling of that. Because vinegar and salt are preservatives, I figured it had some longevity...?

    xxx

I'm glad the pudding is back on, it was delicious and really easy to make!

Re: the mayonnaise, have just found this on another site.

These two sites suggest 3-4 days, which assumes strict refrigeration (raw eggs are about the best culture medium around and can be contaminated with Salmonella). For added safety you could use pasteurized eggs (your own or commerically available) which might extend the shelf life.

When I have made it before I probably have used it for about 5 -6 days. I am currently 14 weeks pregnant though so can't test this recipe out for you at the moment!
