Pinkhayley could you include a warning about needing to cool rice quickly and reheat fully in your tips? The freezing and defrosting thing got me thinking and rice is one of the most dangerous things to reheat if not done right?

Well tonight we are having the chicken suet pie. It is in the oven. I carefully weighed the chicken and have used 235grams in the pie and there is a whole leg and thigh left for dp tomorrow. I only used two onions and the pie (actually a lasagne) dish is full to brimming so I think there would definitely be enough for four people for a roast and then four for pie with weezl's actual recipe.

I tweaked the recipe a bit partly because I didn't have time to read weezl's recipe properly first. So it's two onions, the chicken, sauce made with butter, flour and stock whereas weezl's doesn't use butter. I didn't put garlic in as per the recipe but I have thrown in some dried sage and some pepper. It has a proper suet crust as I had forgotten Weezl lost the suet.

It looks good so far and it smells good cooking and with veg we two are going to be very very stuffed and there might be leftovers so I am confident about this making a meal for four.

Will report back on tastiness later.

Sorry weezl if I am not testing to plan, I really want to try as much as poss and am concious that really I won't be available at all in May. I will try to follow stuff more to the letter once the wedding is out of the way.

    Mayonnaise??

I'd be up for having a go but

    1) I already have a jar

    2) Didnt we work out that it was cheaper to buy it?

No probs here. I have to confess, I do usually buy mine in, simply as it lasts so much longer, but happy to make it for Shirl's sake ;)

Thank you for reminding me of that HowlinWolf.

    I have added the following:

Please be careful with leftover cooked rice as it can become a breeding ground for bacteria if left lying around at room temperature or is not reheated fully. Rice needs to be cooled very quickly (ie under a cold tap) and then ensure it is refridgerated straight away and reheated properly.

Please let me know if you think this is adequate.

Thanks Weezl. Making mayo is a doddle but not sure how MS it would be when you can buy SP stuff so cheaply. I have made it myself many times and it is lovely and you can add your own flavours to it so def recommend for people to try if they fancy trying something new. We will be trying out the planner as well next week looking forward to it and freezer very empty at the moment

    Pinkhayley, that's great

The pie was really really nice. DP declared it damn good. We are stuffed.

  • Hehe, I texted Radio One earlier and got a call back and was live on the radio talking to Scott Mills, very exciting for little old me! :)

The thread seems to have been a little slower today but some more great progress! Allegra, glad the risotto was good, I love butternut squash risotto, mmm...
Right, off to bed now, went out for tapas (with a voucher!) with a friend tonight, potatos with garlic mayo... mmmm....
