I have to agree with Howlin on the drink issue actually. The tap water in Britain is safe and clean and so fluid is always available. Tea etc... is a luxury that people in many other countries dont have and also how does that fit into the healthy eating what with the caffeine in it?

Tea- apparently the british love the stuff (i hate it so cant comment) but surely we could buy the 28p tesco/asda tea bags or tea leaves or double up the tea bag.

How many cups do you drink Weezl (being the most frugal person I know)

DR WHO ALSO ROCKS! YAY FOR EASTER SATURDAY:j:j:j:j:j

sadly they are already using the value bags and using each bag to make 2 cuppas :o

What if we reduce to 3 cuppas a day? Does that sound reasonable? It seems a bit weird if they're compromising on so much due to hardship but the tea is still the same amount albeit with a manky tea bag :D
(it's the milk that's the costliest part. I can replace some of it with hot oaty cereal and still get the calcium, no sweat, but I wonder if people might feel diddled if it doesn't contain their drinks :(

Just to reassure you, lard is fine to use in sweet things and doesn't impart a beefy (or a porky) taste to things. I always make baked porridge with lard because it tastes nicer made with lard than with butter or coconut oil.
hi susan, what's the baked porridge? Have you got a recipe?

    xx

Really concerned about the tea survey results and how to accomodate that amount of tea in a subsistence planner. Bob and Shirl are paying 30p a day for everyone to have 5 cuppas a day :( it's over 9% of the budget  Nearly a tenner over the month....

I'm just wondering what people think here, am I trying too hard to cater for this?

    Any thoughts welcomed!
Five cups of tea per day sounds quite a lot to me (as an average that is - at one point I was drinking up to twelve per day) and I wonder if it could have been skewed by the following factors:
    - People who don't drink tea didn't fill in the survey so those with zero consumption haven't been included when calculating the average.
    - People who are more bothered about having tea (and who consume more) would probably be more likely to fill in the survey than those with a lower consumption and those who aren't so bothered about it.

Also if Jenny and Jason are at school all day I can't see them fitting in five cups of tea per day.

I wonder if people are more bothered about having tea with meals or at other times? I'm thinking perhaps they might be willing to have water with some meals in order to preserve other cup of tea times thereby reducing the total?

Also, I seem to recall that people were unwilling to reuse teabags. We only ever use one bag for a pot of tea for two so if they were to have a teapot (which I realise lots of people probably don't) then they could make a pot for four with two bags which would have the same financial effect as reusing bags but without the grossness of reusing bags (which I'm assuming is the reason people are against it).

Yay i love it i want to be a dr who assistant especially if they go to venezia!!

Hmmmmm... I think three cuppas a day sounds resonable. Are you working on the assumption that all members of the family like tea? Because like in my family my brother drinks gallons of it, my mum drinks instant coffee, mr arybear drinks gallons of real coffee (bad i no!!) and i only drink water so i probably balance everyone out.

So if you work on three cuppas a day per person then someone may balance out someone else?

People with children- do they drink tea?

    XXXX

EDIT susan put it far more eloquently then me !

I'm afraid I must confess to having a rather costly non-negotiable arty :o which I had every day 4 cups with whole milk:

Gar, just lost a massive post, am going out now so this is very quick

Re tea- In my halls I didn;t buy tea and friends who came to visit pretty much went without- one who was up for longer bought some coffee and one begged a few off my flat mate but that was 3 over 4 days. But this is short term.

Anyway, will be back tomorrow- and willing to help in some way.
