If you want me to check on stock levels, please let me know when the recipes and menu plan have been updated in line with the new shopping list. The latest menu plan I can find is in post 1669, and its recipes don't match the shopping list (no pickled cabbage, chick peas, stock cubes, chicken etc), so I think I'm all out of sync.

No rush, obviously! Just when you're ready. And only if it would help - don't feel obligated. :-)

:rotfl:Oh I thought it'd make it sound all posh! Didn't realise it'd put folk off!

I know, I know, it shouldn't. I am just thinking of our Shirley and Bob,
"you're making what love? I'm not sure I like the sound of that, why don't you do some rice and peas instead?"

    Can it be subtitled?
Most people know what bolognaise is, or lasagne, but I am sure that hasn't always been the case, wonder how they became part of the common vernacular :)

Oh, and I would be happy to test the new improved risi e bisi, but I am hardly an impartial tester there, so I do hope someone else joins in - else the lack of interest does not really bode well at all for the survival of my little contribution, innit :o Regarding the lack of vitamin C in the dish - once our Shirl is growing her own herbs (and Bob is off fishing ), that parsley on the top is gonna go a long way towards rectifying that - Just 2 tbsp of parsley contain about 20% of vitamin C RDA, I believe.

If I have enough in I may just cook this tomorrow night. Goes off to check the recipe....

edit - is it a bit like risotto then? Unfortunately not one of my faves, hmm. And we only have wholegrain rice, that won't work so well will it??

Oh I thought of something quite inspiring, to keep us all with our chins up about Bob and Shirley....

DH and I have actually done this (even a bit cheaper). DH is a meat man, but has definitely coped, dare I say enjoyed our food. And as for health, Normally two pregnancies this close together are considered a little risky due to something called maternal deprivation hypothesis, where the mum's stores of essential nutrients are so depleted that the body can't lay down good placental material. We are pretty active and both slightly taller than the UK average.

I have had great results at both my blood tests and do feel well in myself, apart from the insomnia! And DH is a very healthy man too, despite being with an 11 month old, for whom having a perma-cold and offering it to his parents is his best love-gift :)

So why do I believe it?

Well I kinda think we've lived it! :o

    Love from

Oh, now I feel bad - all these volunteers to test my Italian rice and peas (how's that, Sian ?) and I've not tested anything off the list myself yet ! (Cos I'm all meal planned out til the end of March and not much room for manouvre).

Tell you what - I'll have a go at "living it" for a month once it's all finalised, how's that ? Don't hold your breath though - if it's anything as "successful" as my go at living on 50p a day, we'd better not tell Bob and Shirley about it....

I've just been trying to google the vit c content of rosehip syrup (sorry more sugar maysmummy!) but can't find any stats so if you have an idea malteser I'd be grateful - just wondered how much syrup compared to one orange or 4 apples. still the above lemon pancakes will help!

no use for the project I'm afraid, just trying to keep the phizzies fit!

Rose hip syrup provide 65 -70mg per fluid oz so 1 Tbs gives 40 mg which I think is the absolute min RDA some sources say 70mg and many experts think it should be at least 200mg. Rose hips have loads of other goodies too.

I found the info on rosehip syrup in Richard Mabey's Food for Free.

An apple contains approx 3mg and an orange approx 70mg

    3 dessertspoons Lemon juice
    130ml oil

    160g frozen fine green beans
    20g grana padano

I'd v much appreciate costings and nutrition for this one if anyone has chance :)

somebody lovely sent me this :)

I won't embarrass her by naming her, but it is the kind of gift that's so in keeping with a radically minded vegetarian who thinks things through, speaks her mind, not afraid to challenge government injustice, does her research, and likes others (and promotes them hugely) who are quirky and eccentric, but visionary.

perhaps a section for Shirley called 'how to get more essential nutrients for almost no money' containing fab tips like your rose hip one maltesers, or the eggshell calcium method...

Maltesers I know you are busy, but you have a very strong health and diet focus, would you like to be the person who collects those tips together for us please?
