I don't hold out any real hope of AQE ever updating their website. They gave me the same old guff last week about fifth of kids fitting into each quintile. To my mind considering the quintiles were already set this simply wasn't possible.
Roll on end of May when hopefully will all get their school of choice and we can move on from this shambles.
Hi, I went onto the website yesterday but couldnt see anything regarding the papers the kids sat. My daughter told me this morning that she had seen the papers that she sat in her primary school secretary office. i asked her if she was sure and she said it was def the papers that she sat!! she could be wrong but it seems strange that the schools may have got their hands on them for practice papers!!0 -
JUST RANG AQE and they have told me that the website will be updated next week with the tests the children sat. as for the other info they are only a third of the way through their research so it will def be after May before we get any other info and I suppose it will be irrelevant then.0

Thanks for the update Betty Sue and Newtownabbey Mum. I find it totally unbelievable that nearly 3 months after the results were issued AQE still haven't got their act together. What exactly have they been doing all this time? Lets face it they only deal with the CEA exams, its not like they are dealing with other areas of the curriculum.
I just have this horrible feeling that somewhere in their system that they have found an anomalie and are going round in circles trying to fix it/cover it up/decide what to do to rectify it.
I also can't accept that "an expert from QUB designed the age standardisation process" and that no-one can tell us the parents (who at the end of the day paid money for these tests) what the process was.
Right now for me something isn't smelling right. I'm sure AQE read this thread. They have probably decided to hold off issuing any information until after we have got our school allocations. Obviously once we get those and if our kids get our first preference then we will move on from the talk of quintiles etc etc.
Furthermore I should add that I'm very disappointed in the likes of Maggie Taggart who I thought would have done a bit of investigative journalism into this rather than do a brief report on 6 February and quickly forget about it.0 -
If there is a story then it probably requires a McIntyre
analysis, rather than a quick comment on Newsline.
The starting point would be to ask for the number above 118 for each birth month.
Does anyone have knowledge of a July, August or September child who score above 120? Some of the earlier contributors with the high scoring classes maybe able to comment, if still following this thread.
I share the concerns in the post above.
The credibility of this assessment tool (as discussed in my earlier posts) remains open to question.0 -
The highest score I know of is 126 which is to a boy with a December birthday. I also know of a 118 to a December birthday and 117 to a boy with a November birthday. Girl 114 May birthday and boy 115 with a July birthday. The rest of our school appear to be below my child of 104. Actually come to think of it DS has 3 friends with July birthdays and they got 103, 102, and 101. All of those boys were expected to achieve higher scores but then so was my son.
I don't know much about the old CCEA 11 plus but surely in those tests there were lots of kids achieving full marks?
AKA3, what is a McIntyre analysis?
4 weeks until we get the letters. :eek:0 -
Highest score in our school was a child with 125 and they are a may birthday, the smart kid who is head and shoulders above all the rest is a july one and they got 121. I really want to no how the age standerising was done, i just feel that i have paid and am entitled to know!0

The highest scores in our school of 124 - a girl on a November birthday and a boy on an April birthday. I also know of an August birthday on 120 and a May birthday on 119 - these are the kids of friends.0

Survey: Any July, August, September birthdays above 120?
I know that this will be anecdotal but in the absence of any statistics from AQE, maybe of interest. Please only post genuine replies. Also if none this information would be interesting.
So far one exceptionally bright July birthday with 121 Kathybear.
I am curious as I haven't heard of any and none of the previous postings had mentioned any either.
Many thanks for replying JosieJo I'd forgotten who had posted (in the early days) the details of the phenomenally high scoring class, where truly a huge proportion were in the top centile; hadn't the energy to go back through the thread, but recall being impressed with the cluster of high scores. Presumably none were born in the first 1/4 of the academic year.

The scores have caused so much confusion this year - people are desperate to work out what is an A, B1, B2 etc. It is unfortunate that our children have been the guinea pigs. Lets hope, if they can't agree on one single test for Transfer 2011, that AQE will award grades and do away with some of the confusion. AQE and GL Assessment need to set aside their differences and work towards setting one test. It is time to consider the children/parents/teachers in all this.
Results at my daughters school were fairly good and most kids got what they were predicted to get. There were only 2 children who didn't perform as well as they thought and one of them has a July birthday. The only other July birthday I know of scored 110.0 -
The more AQE delay releasing stats the more fuel is added to this fire!! They need to say what is causing the delay. My son is an August birthday, and as you all know I wasn't convinced his score 88 was accurate based on his ability and compared to others in his class which is why I asked for a remark. Based on the details we got with the results I didn't hold out much hope for an increase in the score so was surprised when the score increased by 2 marks to 90. I don't know if that is now his score "correct" but would hate to think that there is still an issue out there that is being kept quiet because it would be disastrous to the admissions process but to find out later would be even worse for the kids who were then denied their rightful place at a grammar school!!0
