Hi all Glad to hear everyone settling into their new schools. Does any of the Grovenor parents know where to purchase the school scarf?

I've been told to get a college type scarf you have to go to the school shop and to get a woollen type then go to Gowdy's. I think I'm just going to get my daughter to get one from school shop.

I think we were given the letter at the end of last week also and I'll def be sending in cash as it was absolutely ridiculous how long we waited for the sports kit cheque to be cashed!!! I had to keep an eye on my account (I don't tend to lol). I shouldn't really complain considering it is much cheaper than other schools.

We're just back from parent/teacher meeting and I have to say her form teacher is a lovely woman. I did have to raise the issue of the fact that my daughter received a missed homework letter for missing art homework because she was ABSENT!!!! Form teacher had no involvement in it and recommended that I contact the teacher and remind her that my daughter was absent. The same teacher still hasn't given my daughter a sketch pad to be able to do the homework in ??????????????????

I had my interview today as well. Wonder if our kids are in the same class lol! If its same teacher then I agree she is lovely and thankfully there were no issues at all. I "think" I'm looking forward to his report card - it will be interesting just to see how they are doing at this stage. He does music though and has "missed" a couple of the tests - we didn't realise these went towards the report card grade:eek:. Hopefully though it will be ok!!! There are so many wee things like that to take into consideration and as you say when they are off sick what happens re homeworks etc!!!

Its all so different from my day lol:whistle:
  • Good to hear your interviews went well. Mine isn't until next week.

I bet we are going to have music issues too as my son only actually started his lessons 3 weeks ago (due to him not getting around to looking at the music board etc) and last week missed it due to the residential. He is wanting to join the guitar club but hasn't got around to that yet either, although he is going to go tomorrow. Are any of your kids in it?

Mine keeps talking about getting grade A all the time for Relgious Studies but when I then ask about other subjects he says they aren't given grades. Hopefully that doesn't mean he is getting Grade D or something. Time will tell. When are we getting the report card?

    Hi

Just an update on BRA, my son loves it. A lot of homeworks and tests every week. Tested weekly on French. Latin and geography so far. History test last week on everything covered and maths test this week on everything covered. My son is exhausted up at 6.45am to get 7.30 bus, home at 4.15pm and it is all go until he goes to bed at 8.30pm.
To be honest I feel as if I am back at school with all the revision he is doing. We haven't had a parent teacher meeting yet but my son has meeting this week with his class tutor. We had to go to the school in Sept for a meeting for all 1st year parents. It basically was about the importance of keeping on top of revision and a powerpoint presentation to show the best way to make notes on subjects covered.

Have any of your children left their PE kit on the bus yet? Mine left his swimming kit last week. I had to chase after the bus which was the wrong bus. Ended up going to the bus station and I must have been driving so fast that I got to the bus station before the bus. Then this week he left school trousers at rugby training. Into the car again down to the rugby playing fields, luckily they were still there, where he had left them. Swore blind to me that he put them in his bag.

His form teacher said she had to have them all done for next Tuesday but wasn't sure when they go out - possibly the Friday or start of the following week. He hasn't mentioned grades at all other than a couple he has got in homeworks.

Re music - he has only had 2 or 3 lessons again due to being off sick once and then the residential. Although got a list on Tues of 3 books he "needs". Had a quick look online - guts of £40!!!!

He has gone to the animal club (or whatever its called). Apparently he's looking after a snake next Friday:eek:! I am assuming its in school because I certainly haven't signed anything to bring it home!!!!!
  • £40 for music books.  at the snake.

There was mention of music books in our house this morning. Son asked me had I got them yet. I said I knew nothing bout them. Apparently he told OH about them yesterday morning. Well he may as well have told the dog as OH would just assume I've got it sorted. Will get the details this evening.
  • Good to hear your son is happy at BRA, Sniffy. Sounds like a long day for him.

Grosvenor teachers must read this thread. Son arrived home today to inform me he now has the full PE Kit. At least I'll not have to moan about it at the interview. :rotfl:
  • Update for all parents - see today's Belfast Telegraph for full breakdown of transfer test results. Should be helpful for parents of children taking test this year.
  • Thanks Belfast Mum. Was trying to find an online link but there doesn't appear to be one. I get a Tele delivered so will wait until it arrives.
  • Was going to type up the list but an online link has appeared on the other thread so here it is.

    http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/ne...-14971040.html

Grosvenor hasn't appeared on the online list despite being in the paper so here are the details of it:

    Grosvenor

    Highest 127
Lowest 92 - I happen to know that there were 2 who got in with 92 (Special Circumstances)

    52 Q1 43 Q2 46 Q3 14 Q4

The thing that is amazing me about all of this is the number of Q4s in a lot of the schools. My son was at the very top of Q3 and I really worried he wouldn't get a place but it looks like that worry was for nothing.

Another thing which totally amazes me is Sullivan Upper. We didn't put it on the form as I believed if he didn't have enough for Grosvenor, Wellington et al that there was no way he was getting in there.

    163 applications for 150 places

    Highest Score 124
    Lowest 79
First 126 strict rank order then remaining 24 from a pool

    73 Q1 45 Q2 25 Q3 7 Q4 1 Q5

I truly believed that nearly all their intake would be Q1.
