Superdry coat here too. :rotfl: I'm going to go and find some long trench coat thing somewhere and pretend that it the compulsory coat to be worn over the blazer. :rotfl: The look on his face will be priceless. :rotfl:

ha, thats a good one :rotfl::T Well I am in the middle of trying to design my 7 year old daughter's first solo dress for irish dancing so I will be dreaming about the letter as well as little pink and purple puffball dancing dresses running about in my head. You thought uniforms were expensive, pray your daughter doesn't become interested in irish dancing at a cost of £1000 + for one dress! Yes I said ONE dress not the whole teams'. I need to give up my job and learn to sew because that is one huge profit margin!!! Nightie night. Sweet dreams :D
  • just wanted to send my good luck vibes to you all for saturday...ive been watching this thread as my dd is currently p6 and we are at the very beginning of this im so stressed i started the 'anyone with a child in p6' thread lol im waiting for the letter to tell us if shes got the school she wanted to do the test in and finding that hard enough!!!!!
so just to wish you all luck and hope the kids (and you, lol) get what they want :)

  • I'm only getting caught up with this thread from before the weekend, but delighted to see all the activity again!

My daughter got 106 and her choices are Methody, Victoria, Wellington (we are East Belfast) and I'll be at Prince Regent Road at 7.30 on Saturday morning to collect my letter. With my elder daughter (2 years ago) there were 2 letters - one from the Education Board with the formal notification, and one from the school with a welcome letter and uniform list etc. The school one had the Methody frank, so we knew instantly that she had got in. I've just phoned Methody and they are sending letters this year too, so I imagine all other schools will do the same.

I've just had to replace my eldest's blazer as it was falling apart and getting too small - £65 after almost 2 years of continual wear - but the rest of her uniform is wearing pretty well. I would recommend Warnocks as their quality seems to be the best (in my opinion!) and they usually give a bit of discount. I also think if you buy the uniform at the start of the summer and your child grows they will exchange it.

Just think everyone, 4 more sleeps...
  • Dear God, £400 for the uniform??!!! I feel a tad unwell. Kingston, I'm not originally from this side o' town, so I have no idea where to purchase the seemingly scandalous priced uniforms, please tell me where? In my day, I'd to go to some ancient shop in Gresham Street, funny when you think of a girls school uniform outfitters placed nicely between some exceedingly seedy establishments...We assumed a uniform list would come with the letter and have also said we will buy her her tie on saturday morning, no doubt a great many of us will bump into each other, if I see any gleeful mothers I will cough 'neveranymoney' under my breath and see if anyone responds!

Oh no!! I left my letter into Prince Regent Road on Saturday morning and there was no problem - the guy asked was it for 11+ results and when I told him it was for the school announcements he said he would be prepared for the onslaught. So there certainly wasn't any problem there. When I looked it up on the Royal Mail website for the 11+ results I seem to remember that this is a service they provide - and although they charge for it to be done on a regular basis, they don't charge for one-offs. I would go down to the actual sorting office with a letter and see what they say. Good luck!
  • neveranymoney, I really hate to say it, but I would allow £400-£500 to kit a child out for grammar school! By the time you buy the main uniform, shirts/blouses, shoes, Games & PE kits, school bag, Games bag etc, it really adds up very quickly. Just take comfort in the fact you should get about 2 years out of most of it!
The school should include a uniform list with their letter, along with where to buy it. You usually buy the Games kits directly from the schools.

happymummy24-7 if we can help you anyway do shout. We've all lived and breathed this now for as long as we can remember. Hopefully it will be happy endings on Saturday. What I will say to you (which is what I'm saying to every P6 parent I see) is whatever score your child gets put down the schools in order of preference that you would like. Do not believe that the score isn't high enough for a particular school. I know of far too many kids this year who have applied to Inst as their first choice school as their parents didn't believe they had enough marks for Grosvenor. I'm sure this has happened in other areas too. The reality is they may have got in. Unfortunately the Principal offered no advice.

Co Down Mum, are you in a position to call in at the Ards Office? Dear knows who answered the phone when you called. Alternatively do you see your postman at all during the week? You could always ask him to keep your mail aside so that you can meet him somewhere on the morning.

Kingston, I will be discouraging any talk of irish dancing.

Stressed Mum, is your eldest at Methody?

The girl I spoke to said it was all sorting offices that were stopping it - although I cant see what the problem is - think I might phone Prince Regent Road and ask them if they are still allowing it. I had my morning planned out - and really wanted to get it over and done early!!! Ex-spendaholic - hopefully i will be there buying a Grosvenor tie on Saturday too!!
